CANDY FLOSS
NINE
Miles idea of celebration was coffee. We both waited till school ended and went off, I even forgot to tell Roland and Cassie. He ordered for us, insisting on paying and got annoyed when I argued.
''Do you think I'm weird because I'm excited about the exhibition?'' He looked up and ran his tongue over his lips, wiping away some yogurt. It took him a while to reply for a question so simple.
''I thought you had figured me out already, I'm kinda disappointed Peyton.'' I raised my brows; he didn't look disappointed to me, amused in fact.
''I don't know what you mean.'' I voiced my confusion.
''I don't like to judge people on such minor things. I mean, exhibitions are for people and I am also excited, so don't fret.''
''I'm not fretting!'' I cried,
He smirked, ''That is one thing about girls, they fret and then deny and fret again and-''
''Don't you know too much about girls, Miles?''
''It all depends on experience you know.'' I wasn't sure if he was joking but all of the sudden a question popped in my mind,
''Miles?''
''Hmm...''
''Did you um ever - '' I struggled with the words and he looked up, '' h-have a girlfriend?'' His eyes widened, he obviously hadn't expected that from me. I had to drop my eyes now,
''Why do you ask?'' Why exactly? I wasn't sure. Maybe it was mild curiosity on my part.
''Just curious'' I replied,
''I had a girlfriend once, her name was Emily.'' I looked up, a little too fast and he noticed but went on. I never really thought about it this way, how could I be so self absorbed.
Miles had this wishful face on, all of the sudden. His eyes looked far away at the mention of this Emily, he stopped drinking his coffee and his voice wasn't so alive anymore. Something warm began to stir in my gut,
''I met Emily when I was just a kind, we immediately clicked and were inseparable ever since.''
''W-as she beautiful?'' I asked, pressing on the topic, a smile appeared on his face as he spoke again and I realized that the warm thing in my gut was nothing other than the feeling of envy.
''She had hair darker than a raven's feather, flowing like fine silk. Her eyes were glimpse of heaven - honey colored orbs that shined in starlight. Her lips were pink and full, they made me kiss her again and again and -''
''How many times exactly?''
''Ten kisses a day.'' He snapped out of it and told me. I reacted so fast, I almost knocked over my coffee.
''Are you serious?!''
''Nope, just joking.'' He said just like that and went back to sipping carelessly.
''Y-you mean there was n-no -''
''Jeez Peyton, I just made it up.'' He sounded amused and I scowled, he should know how dangerous these jokes could be. I breathed in relief, and at the same time realized how stupid I had been acting around him. I needed to have some control over myself, even if I was coming in terms with these confusing newfound feelings I had for him.
Miles was just joking ... but I still was in a relationship and these things had been worrying me the whole night. Cameron, how could I forget him? Everything was too jumbled up for me now. What was I suppose to do? Did I really like Miles or was it just a small degree of attraction? I wasn't hundred percent sure about my feelings that's why I couldn't figure out what to do with Cameron.
