"You're my regret."
She could hear the intake of his breath in the quiet atmosphere of the room. Her eyes stared blank on the ceiling above her and she could feel his eyes on her. Juliette rubbed her eyes, clearing her throat.
"You're my regret," she repeated. "You make me fall in love with you. You do everything possible in life to prevent anything other than that to happen. How could I have not fallen in love with you?"
Warner's breaths turned shallow and Juliette raised herself onto her elbows so she could look at him. As if her gaze was a punch to the stomach, Warner stumbled back a step, towards his office. He had started sleeping in there again.
"I regret falling for you," Juliette swallowed when her voice clogged. "I regret falling for you because after everything--after everything, you broke up with me because you're scared."
Warner pulled his lips inside his mouth, "I'm not scared."
"You are scared." Her voice shook, "You're scared that you will hurt me. You're scared that I will run. You're scared, so you decided to hurt me."
Warner turned around, his body stiff. "I don't want to talk about this."
But Juliette didn't stop. She wanted to talk about this--had to. The hurt hung in her chest, new and shallow. It was a fresh wound.
"You are my regret." She told him again. "You are my regret, Aaron. I regret falling in love with you. I regret letting you take over my body and taking my heart in your hand. I regret letting myself love you." Her arms were sore from holding her up but her gaze didn't leave him once. Even if Warner wasn't looking back at her. "But I love you. You are my regret but I love you so deeply, it hurts. This hurts."
Slowly, her back hit the mattress again and the tears she let flow free slipped down the sides of her face, wet her cheekbones and her ears. "You always asked if you were dreaming because I couldn't possibly be in your hold, loving you each second of my life." Juliette pursed her lips, "This isn't a dream, Warner. I love you and you--you broke me. Again."
As she turned onto her side, Juliette moved a hand under her ear, wiping at the tears. Warner lingered in front of his office door, looking at her with a deep ache in his chest. "Go to sleep," he murmured.
So, she could only replied with, "Go to hell."
And she meant it.
