Long Time No See (feat. Atu) By: Ta-ku

The sky was now a luxurious shade of royal blue with diamond speckled stars as my Soto driver, Jason, slowly eased his car into the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel I'll be staying at for the night here in Brooklyn. Coming from the airport, it wasn't too far away but it was a quiet ride for the most part. I wasn't really in the mood for conversation so I appreciated that Jason never pushed me to talk. He was a cute guy; brown skinned, slender and had a hipster kind of style. He wore thick black eye glass frames that kept sliding down his nose as he drove. I glanced at him just about each time he pushed them back up, which caused me to smile to myself at his awkwardness.
Soon, he parked and my phone buzzed in my hand as I stepped out of his car, alerting me that the ride was officially complete. I'd been keeping track of the highlighted route we were taking to get here and expected to see what I owed him in a few seconds.
"Do you need help carrying your luggage in?" He asked, popping his head up from his side of the car.
"Uh, no. But thanks," I giggled. "I only brought one suitcase with me, remember? I think I can manage to take it inside myself."
Jason smiled and walked to the back of his car to get my suitcase out of his trunk. I closed my door and met him there. As he took my suitcase out, I looked around and wrapped my arms around myself. I did have my jacket on but it was a bit cooler than I had anticipated. Jason, on the other hand, casually wore a stripped short sleeve shirt and appeared unbothered by the cold air. I accidentally brushed my hand against his as I went to grab my suitcase by its handle and became surprised by how warm his skin was.
"You're not cold?"
He thought about it. "Yeah, I am a little cold. Why?"
"You don't feel like it." We both chuckled a bit.
"I know, I'm a like a walking heater. To be fair, we did just step out of a warm car so..."
"Yeah, but I'm freezing over here. I guess my body doesn't retain as much heat as yours does."
"I guess not."
Not one for small talk, I bid farewell to Jason and turned on my heels towards the entrance of the hotel. I got the sense that the night was still young, even though it was a Sunday. The streets were still noisily whirring with cars and every now and then people could be seen strolling the nearby sidewalks. It was a chill atmosphere and I felt comfortable the more I took in my surroundings.
I always loved staying in hotels. They're the best part, in my opinion, of visiting places out of town. New York, specifically, recently snagged my interest. I've visited here before, but that was years ago and I barely remember the experience. However, back then I do remember being a little turned off by New York. It was cold when I visited, the streets were dirty, areas didn't particularly smell the greatest and there were way too many people always speeding by on all sides. I've never had a desire to go back, until now. Now is different. My life is different. My feelings are different. In fact, now, I look to New York as perhaps a sort of saving grace for me. Somewhere new that I can explore unfamiliar territory. On the surface, I'd say that I'm excited to be here, but deep inside, I also feel a constant tugging sensation on my heart...and I feel tired. Real tired. Especially can't forget being tired too.
