"All aboard," A man shouts as a group of people on the dock walk onto the newly built boat, Lucy Oceans. I quickly get into the line with my bag that has everything I need, clothes and money.
I'm leaving England. I thought I'd never been able to do it. I think. I look past through the crows of people as I step onto the boat trying to spot my house— no, my old home. I can't see it. Good, mother and father will never notice me getting onto the boat. Unfortunately, that's just how it has to be.
I've wanted to leave this land for a while now. Too many bad memories remain here, and I can't deal with them anymore. When I heard that there was going to be a ship headed for America, I knew I had to go there straight away, I just couldn't miss my only chance.
"Name, age, and ticket" The man asks me once I walk up to him. He has a pen and clip bored in his hands.
"Um...Mary Paterson, age fifteen." I say and bite my lip. I then hand him the ticket that I paid for in advance. I saved up months of small payments from small jobs for this, and they really did pay off.
The man smiles and nods at me and writes down my name and age and I enter the boat holding my bag. It confuses me why he would need to know such a thing, but it's not my business, so I let it pass.
"Thank you..." I mutter and walk inside. The ship is quite big, but there's not much too it. A mass group of people have gathered on the deck to socialize. Honestly, I didn't expect that this many people would want to leave England.
As I'm lost in thought, I don't notice another man walking up to me until he talks. "Hello there Miss. Paterson," He says with a warm friendly smile.
I smile back at him. "Hello." I politely respond and nod my head at him. One hand is gripped onto my green dress of many shades, something my mother made for me, and honestly it's my most cherished outfit.
The man nods his head, "Would you like me to lead you to where you'll be staying?"
I nod, "Oh yes, that would be much appreciated, thank you."
He nods and takes my bag. Trying not to hesitate, I let him take it and he leads me into a room.
"I hope you enjoy your stay here Miss." He says, "This room will most likely be shared with three other people, and based off your gender and age, they should be the same so you shouldn't worry about feeling scared."
"Thank you so much," I say and sit down on my bed, and he leaves. The room...it's small, but big enough to fit a bed in each corner, a dresser next to it and a window on the wall next to one of the bed and another door to the bathroom. I notice two of the beds already have belongings placed, and I place my things down on top of my bed.
I'm actually doing this. I'm on a boat to America, the new land that many people talk about. Out of England, and off to America. I'll be on this boat for about a month or two, so better make the best of it.
I hear the horn of the boat and it's off. I look out the window, and the ocean looks beautiful, sparkling in the sunset. The reflection of the window looks back at me, and I see tears in my pale blue-gray eyes.
"Oh," I say out loud, "looks like I'm crying. Silly me, I shouldn't be crying," I say and wipe the tears off with my arm.
I take deep breaths, and then decide that I should rest. I walk over to the dresser and put my clothes away and put my money under it. I then put my bag under my bed. I walk into the small bathroom that holds a toilet and mirror. Looking into the mirror, I start to brush my brown hair, and then I pull it up into a bun. Exiting the bathroom, I sit down on my bed and stare out the window.
I never notice the other passengers enter the room, as I eventually fall asleep.
I wake up from a dreamless sleep; however there are tears in my eyes. I quickly wipe them away and get up. As I slip into the bathroom, I notice one bed empty, but the other two have sleeping bodies.
I wash my face and let loose my hair. I brush down my dress, straightening it out, and fix the sleeves.
Leaving the bathroom, I walk towards my small dresser and take out my money, deciding that I should get something for breakfast before it's too late.
I make my way through the long hallway and reach the deck, where a man is handing out bread, water, and an apple.
Walking up to him, I ask for one of each, which he gladly hands me, and I pay him. Taking my things, I find a place against the wall to sit at and I bite into the bread.
I can hear the waves behind me, and I can smell the salty air. It's relaxing, and it puts me at ease. Finishing up my water, I get up and return the cup to the man, and I walk back to where I was originally sitting, only this time I stay standing.
The wind blows in my face as I hold onto the rail. I look down into the ocean water, and see many fish swimming around. I smile and the powerful wind pushes me back a bit.
"It's so lovely." I murmur to myself. I close my eyes and think of my old home, with my mother and father. But I had to leave...I just had to. I wasn't loving life there...I had to make things better. I just had to.
A sudden scream causes me to jolt back into reality.
"Ah! That man took my purse! That man took my purse!" Someone yells.
I turn around to see an older women chase a man. The man is in a black outfit, and is holding the woman's purse. The woman is trying to catch up to him while she's screaming. I don't get a good look at the man's face.
Quick, what do I do? Should I help her? I think, and look around. Everyone else around is frozen in shock. This man is crazy, thinking he could rob someone while on a boat, like how on earth will he get away? His only option is jumping in the water and we're miles off shore.
In the end, however, I decide to run up to the strange man and try to grab the purse. The least I can do is help the women.
I jump onto the man's back and people start looking at up. I struggle to grab the purse. I then grab the purse from his hand and jump off his back, dodging the man's punch.
I hand the purse to the lady. "Here," I say trying to catch my breath.
"Oh, thank you! Thank you very much." She says and smiles.
I smile back.
The woman then looks scared. "Watch out!" She yells and then ducks.
Boom!
Before I can turn around I hear a loud boom and then feel a sharp pain on my neck.
The next thing I know, I'm standing over my body, my dead body. I turn around and see the man, and the face I see might scare me more than seeing myself hover my own body. It's him...
He holds a gun, and starts laughing. People start screaming, and there's blood on the ground.
I'm scared, and I don't know what I'm thinking. I've just been shot, why am I still here? I ask myself. Have I become a ghost? I look back up at him, that horrendous face that has caused me so much pain back home.
And in that very moment, I decided that I would kill him.
