"Hi dad," I said, I had just got home and it was 3 pm, me and Josh had spent the day discussing the word 'forever' and his cancer and all sorts of random things.
"Hi sweetie!" My dad said emerging from the living room, he stopped in his tracks, staring at me in a concerned way, "What's up?"
"I err... Nothing dad, I'm fine..." I said, wiping away my tears, oh yes, because of course that was going to convince him.
"Yeah sure you are, your puffy eyes and tear stains are telling me that." He said.
"I'm fine, really." I tried to convince him.
"No your not, spill it, now. I'll get it out of you someway." He said.
"Fine. Well I have this... friend." I paused and took a deep breath, "A err... very close friend, and he's very ill... he um... he has... cancer..." I said bursting into a fresh set of tears. "And um... he is so ill that, he wont get well again and he probably isn't going to live until his next birthday."
"And this... friend of yours... you stayed at his last night." Dad asked.
I blushed "It wasn't planned, but he took me to the beach, he meant to tell me there, but he couldn't. And he needed to tell me so... he asked me to stay the night. We slept in different rooms, don't worry." I lied.
"Don't worry, I trust you... But this friend, he is a very close friend?"
"Very."
"Close enough that you might... Like him..."
"If you mean like then... yes..." I said blushing , why was I saying this to my dad?
"Well... I don't know what to say to cheer you up because, well there isn't anything is there, I cant stop the pain, I cant stop what the universe is doing. Whether it is wrong or right, the universe does what it wants, and doesn't stop for anybody." He said, putting his arm around me, "but what I do know is, I'm going to help you through this, and I also know that I want to meet this friend of yours, he seems like a lovely boy."
"He is... The most caring person I've ever met." I said
"Great, invite him round for dinner tonight, he can sleep if you want, in different rooms mind you." He said.
"But... What about mum." I said.
"Oh no need to worry about her, she's going to a fancy hotel in London with her friends and they're staying there over night, she'll never find out." He smiled at me.
"Alright well I'm gonna go have a shower and then I'll invite him over." I smiled back and then went upstairs and showered.
You know the routine by now, it happens every morning. I had a shower and got dressed. Once I was ready I rang Josh, he answered on the third ring.
"Daisy?" He answered
"Hi... er... My dad was wondering, would you maybe like to come round to dinner at my place tonight?"
"I'd love to, dais, you told your dad about us?" I could hear the smile in his voice, it made me smile as well.
"Yeah, well he kinda forced it out of me. But anyway, come to mine at about 7?" I asked
"Yeah that would be great. Daisy?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Forever?"
"Forever."
I felt like I was in the fault in our stars but instead of Okay our word was Forever, but to be honest, I liked it better.
