-Sky's POV-
"Please" I begged, putting my elbows on the table and hands locked together.
The executors looked at each other almost quizzicality. Most of them were in their late 60s and wore long hats and had white mustaches. I knew they didn't approve of me and my role as captain of the Mayflower. They thought I was ridiculous. They thought I was a joke. My idea to travel the sea had sounded dimwitted and impractical. Even so, hundreds of townsfolk had flocked to my ship to prove that they were capable of possibly making a new settlement. The people were eager, and I wasn't about to let them down. My crew has already made the preparations. We had our way of travel mapped out. Everyone was ready for a change. That is, except for the people in charge. The executors have enjoyed the life we live now. They say we've begun to reach new expanses. Our hundreds of buildings, in their words, give hope for a new chapter in history. That may be true, but I don't want to be remembered for this. The executors only care for themselves, and order higher taxes than anyone could ever pay. We needed a new beginning, and that's what I've been trying to give them for years. The first time I offered a Voyage, they turned me down and said I had my head in the clouds. Even when they called me silly, I kept coming. It's taken me years to get this far. I'm now finally able to argue my cause with them at their table overlooking the city. I wouldn't be here now if it weren't for my right hand man. I must admit, I can be a little impulsive. I'm so lucky to have a crew member like him. He stepped in and made some reasonable proposals to the executors. He made the point of how many new plants and animals we could discover. We lived right by the sea, so our dock was always full with traders. He said this new land could give us a major upper hand in the trading industry. He also explained how much land we could claim.
The executors liked his ideas. They finally took me into consideration and asked my right hand man to wait outside. Knowing him, he's probably listening in through the door. This wasn't just my accomplishment, it was his too.
The executor at the front looked at me with a stern eye. He looked me up and down, then let out a sigh. I held my breath in anticipation. "We have come to a conclusion." He said in his gruff voice. I looked up at him respectfully.
"You and your friend have interested me. Let's say you actually made it to this new land. You would let us take full control over it. Am I correct?" He asked
"Of course sir." I stated, sitting straighter.
"You may be a... mongrel of sorts, but you show potential as a captain. This is your only shot, so don't you dare walk out of line."
I started to stand. Did he say what I think he said?
The executor rose from his chair, and cleared his through. "I herby give you, Adam Dahlberg, the privilege of sailing across the seas in Britain's name."
I pushed my chair away and ran up to him, shaking his hand vigorously. "I won't let you down sir! I promise!" I said unprofessionally. I ran to the door and kicked it open. I raced down and out the building. My right hand man ran beside me. "Did you get it?!" Cory asked, excitement filling his voice and expression.
"Yes! Yes, I did!" I yelled
We ran down the streets of the bustling city. Cory and I knew exactly were to step and where we were running. The docks come into view, and we sped up, jumping and ducking over crates and people. I ran to the end of the dock and looked out over our ship. We had already been packed up. Everyone was on board and the crew was waiting at their stations in anticipation for the executor's answer. Cory ran by my side and cuffed his hands to his mouth, giving out orders."Unfasten the sails! Hoist the anchor! This is it, boys! We've finally done it!"
And so starts our story. I hope you enjoyed this introduction of sorts. You've already been introduced to two of the characters. They're very significant to the story, but don't forget about the crew and townspeople. They may hold important roles in the future as well. Maybe the crew more than the townspeople. Anyway, I really hope you enjoy my spin off history. There also may or may not be some Greek myths mixed into it. You know, to spice it up and all. He he...
