The tables were ordered in a centric shape, with the biggest table in the center, a large rectangular table, and the rest of them around it, no less than one hundred people attended the party that day.
Stella and Matthew took care of being seated next to each other, Matthew at the head of the table and Stella right next to him on the left corner.
Miranda and Josh seated on the middle of the table next to each other, keeping at least five guest between them and their parents.
The dinner went in a calm and uneventful manner.
Although both Miranda and Josh barely grabbed a bite, they both practically were just staring at the food in front of them.
Suddenly, Josh felt a little pulling in his right sleeve.
He looked down to find Miranda's hand pulling from it, as he turned to look at her, Miranda came closer to his ear.
"we need to revise our strategy" she whispered.
Josh replied in the same manner "we are so dead" he said.
"why didn't you tell me you were nanny's son?" she asked.
"because i didn't know my mom worked for you"
"you mean to tell me you don't know where your mom works at?" she inquired.
"i knew my mom worked for Matthew Hawthorn, what i didn't know was that you were Matthew's daughter" he answered.
"fine, we have no time for this" she asserted "our original plan is not going to work, my dad gave us a break, but it ends after dinner is done, then we will have to answer questions, a lot of them"
"you are the strategist here" he shrugged.
"first we need to convince them that we genuinely didn't know who each other were" she explained.
"hmmm i don't know about you, but i do have an explanation for that" Josh declared.
"is it good?" she asked.
"the only one i have"
Miranda just looked at him, doubted, but there was just too much to cover and not enough time to listen and approve Josh's explanation "ok, let's go with that, next, how did we first meet?"
"we have a location, Lincoln park, but if we tell that i made the first move in front of my mother, we are so busted" he uttered.
Miranda thought a bit about it "my friend Michelle told me that she met a guy in a park once, she told me he knocked her down while playing with his dog, we can go with that one"
"i don't have a dog" he declared.
"work with me here! we don't have time!" she pleaded in frustration.
Josh thought about it for a bit "i don't have a dog, but i have roommates, their i.q. should be about the same"
Miranda recalled the duo "OK, let's go with that, next, how long have we been seeing each other?"
"a month is way to short to be introducing your boyfriend to your parents, so it has to be longer than that" Josh declared.
"do you talk with your mom about woman stuff?" she asked.
"of course not" was the answer "as far as my mom is concerned, i'm not even old enough to bathe myself, let alone have girlfriends"
Miranda could not help but to laugh out loud at the sincere declaration.
Josh laughed also a little embarrassed.
"let's say we been seeing each other for six months, that should be enough" she affirmed.
"but they won't buy that we been seeing each other for that long and that the family wasn't brought to discussion" Josh noted.
"i think i can cover that one, i will use something i read once"
after a few more seconds, Josh came a final time to Miranda's ear.
"do you think we can pull this off?" he asked.
"there is only one way to find out" she replied.
Dinner was quickly coming to an end, and the pair would have to face their parents, whether they liked it or not.
