I sat at the chair behind my desk, looking up only when I heard the office door open. In the doorway stood the girl I had been waiting all morning to see.
Kali Denora wasn't your average girl. She had light blonde hair that barely reached her shoulders. The underside was shaved, allowing her to effortlessly comb it all to one side in a style I had grown rather fond of. She had a thin figure that seemed so fragile the slightest wrong move could shatter her very being. Her skin was as pale as the grave, all but her cheeks which showed life in the form of a rosy blush that never seemed to fade. Her lips, though slightly chapped from the dry winter air, still looked soft and almost irresistible. Her eyes were almond like in shape, and although they were mostly brown, a closer look showed hints of sunrise gold. Pair that with the spark of curious wonder and playful innocence they held, and you had the image of perfection.
She took a hesitant step towards my desk, closing the door behind her. I stood, holding my hand out to her.
She took my hand in hers and I was surprised by the coldness of her soft skin. She pulled her hand back and I sat back down, giving my best attempt at a kind smile. She sat in one of the two chairs positioned in front of my desk and glanced nervously around the neatly organized office.
"I-I was told you wanted to see me, Sir.." She spoke softly, avoiding eye contact.
"Yes, though it was hours ago when I called for you." I attempted to keep the harshness out of my voice, though it remained anyways.
"I'm.. I'm sorry, Sir.." She stared down at her black dress shoes, tugging at the hem of her shirt. "It's just that there was traffic and-"
"It doesn't matter." I cut her off. "What matters is that you're here now."
She nodded and I stood, moving to the chair beside her.
"Ever since I first saw you, I've had my eye on you."
Her blush darkened slightly and I smirked, biting my bottom lip.
She was wearing a V-neck shirt but her jacket was pulled around her tightly, blocking any view I might have gotten. Her skirt, which had gone just passed her knees while standing, now had folded under her and went only halfway down her thighs.
She must have noticed the direction of my wandering eyes, as she quickly lifted herself and adjusted her skirt, pulling it down to its original length.
"I-Is that Why you called me here?"
"Partially yes. I hear you've been searching for employment ever since the unfortunate closing of your previous workplace, Primrose Café. "
"That's correct.."
"Well, if you'd accept, I would like to offer you a job as my personal assistant." As I said this, she immediately looked up and her perfect eyes met mine, whose silvery storm grey color was dull by comparison. "What type of work would I be doing," she asked as politely as she could.
"Nothing too difficult. Just odd jobs. Getting coffee, tidying up, running errands, things like that."
"Alright..." She paused, getting a thoughtful look.
"As for the matter of your living arrangement, you have no need to worry. Anything you need will be provided for you-"
"Sorry to interrupt Sir, but did you say living arrangement?"
"Well yes. If you accept the job you will be allowed to stay in the guestroom on the second floor, which is almost as big as the master bedroom. Also, I almost never go up there so you'll have all the privacy you need."
"It's great that you say that, you see after Primrose shut down I haven't been able to pay rent on my apartment and this morning I got a note of eviction..."
"Well then this will be perfect. If you accept my offer that is."
"I accept." She smiled and I nodded, going to my desk picking up a few papers.
"Get these filled with and bring them back to me by tomorrow then. And don't worry about packing, there will be a moving crew coming tomorrow after you bring the paperwork back that will help you."
"Thank you so much Mister.. I just realized j never got your name."
"Vincent Ariel." I smile. "And your name?"
"Kali Denora."
"Well it's been a pleasure Ms. Denora, but you should be on your way. There's a snowstorm on the way."
"Alright. I'll see you tomorrow, Sir." She stood and walked out, leaving only the scent of her lavender vanilla perfume in the office. I went back to my desk and looked at some of my paperwork, one stack in particular catching my eye.
The top sheet was labeled "Primrose Café". I opened a drawer and pulled out a folder, putting inside it the documents I had used to shut Primrose down.
Yes, this arrangement will be absolutely perfect. I think and a smile crosses my face.
Now I just have to wait until tomorrow...
