The first few minutes of the walk was quiet and since Jay wasn't that a big fan of quiet, he decided to break it.
"So...just to tell you, Cole's my friend. He stays with me."
Kai merely nods his head and the awkward atmosphere returned, making both of them tense.
Jay glanced around, and so did Kai. They tried to make it as if they were busy, trying to explore the area.
However, Jay couldn't take it anymore. It was way too quiet for his liking.
"Hey, Kai! Tell me about you, where did you come from?" Jay inquired.
Kai flashbacked for a second, as tragic thoughts rushed through his mind. He really was from South Korea. yet he had to move all the way to America and all over it. Additionally, no one has ever asked to know more about him. Especially not for learning purposes.
"Short answer or long answer?"
"Short will do!" Jay excitedly replied. Oh, how he loved learning more about others!
"I was born in South Korea and moved to America when I was 10. From then, I moved to over thirty states here." Kai replied, with a monotone tone.
"Woah! Now, I want the long answer. Which thirty?" Jay eagerly questioned.
"Sigh...California, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Texas, Alaska, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Michigan, Minnesota, Georgia, Ohio, New Jersey, Illinois, Kentucky, Colorado, Arizona, Washington, New York, Maryland, Louisiana, Virginia, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Vermont, Idaho, and many more. Now, I'm here. In North Carolina." Kai recited.
Jay stared at Kai, which made poor Kai uncomfortable, open-eyed.
"Wow...which state did you like the best?" Jay pressed on.
"Honestly, none. They are all the same to me." Kai uttered.
Look, he was pushed in Texas, kicked in Ohio, punched in Virginia, spat on in Kansas, the list of horrid events goes on and on. If you were him. you would definitely like none of the states, considering the fact that you spend the majority of your time in school.
"Ok, then...Which state do you hate the most?"
"Alaska. Because you practically turn into a human popsicle over there." Kai declared.
Jay burst out laughing, "Hahaha! Tell me about it! Cole got his tongue stuck on the ice when he tried to lick it!"
Kai bit back a laugh, that never happened before. How is it that he feels so free and relaxed to laugh out loud? He feels...free! He felt that he could share all about him to Jay!
"Tell me about you now." Kai innocently queried.
Jay finally stopped laughing and wiped a tear off, "Sure! Man, I've never laughed so hard before."
Kai giggled at that, immediately receiving attention from Jay, but he quickly turned away and motioned Jay to continue.
"Right. So, I came from Spain and I have three siblings. Two of them are younger than me and the last one is the eldest. My family is very cosy, although we have normal family arguments here and there."
Jay's sentence about his own loving family made Kai feel queasy. Family? What is a family? What's it like to be loved? How? He had so many questions about that one particular topic and he wanted answers. The unfortunate part was, he knew he would never get them. He didn't have his own family to tell him all about it.
Luckily, before Kai could break down over his family's loss, he tried his best to keep a firm stature, it's really what he's been doing all this time.
"Oh, we're here!" Jay announced.
Kai flipped his head to the right.
Indeed, they were back at his house.
"I guess I'll see you around!" Jay commented, waving back at Kai.
Kai waved gratefully back at Jay as he smiled weakly at him. He wanted the walk to last longer, he felt security when he was with Jay. 'What a strange feeling,' Kai thought to himself, shrugging it off, 'Probably not important anyway.'
