Darker, Yet More Darker

We were walking outside, Mallumo and I.

There was something out there, I sensed.

It was dark and lurking, readying its eyes on us, ready to pounce.

Before I could warn Mallumo, the whole world was engulfed with darkness.

It was nothing I had ever experienced before. It was like a world, a cold and dark world, without the sun, moon, or even stars.

Mallumo's darkness was nothing like this. This darkness was never ending,

Dark,

And evil.

Fire flashed from its eye, full of hatred.

Hatred for this world.

The eyes were seeking something.

Seeking power to destroy this world.

It was pulling me towards it, encouraging me to join.

But there was something inside me that wouldn't let go.

The darkness left as quickly as it came.

I was stunned; amazed, almost.

How could the darkness be so powerful?

How could it be so manipulative?

I looked over at Mallumo; he wasn't affected at all.

He was darkness itself also, so I shouldn't be so surprised.

"Mallumo, did you see that?" I asked.

Yes, he replied. It was no normal shadow.

I turned into a sword, and went into Mallumo's hand.

"If something like that happens again, attack," I commanded.

I understand.

It came back, the darkness.

No matter how much we attack, no matter how much light I put in it, it was still pitch black, other than the fire red eye glaring at us, hungry for power.

We fought for who knows how long. It may be hours, but it seemed like days.

I was starting to reach my limit at this point, and Mallumo sensed it.

You should rest, Light. I'm the only one who can deal with darkness.

"But it will never end!" I cried. "They can't hurt you, and you can't hurt him! It's impossible!"

I have a plan. Just trust me on this.

I turned my fingers into ninja stars.

"I see where you're going, Mallumo. Combine with me."

I felt more powerful and confident as Mallumo returned to where he belonged.

I took a deep breath in, taking in the contaminated air. But that made me more confident.

I ran.

I ran as fast as my legs could take me, aiming for only one target.

The eye.

The darkness attempted to attack me, but it was too slow. Or was it I who was too fast? Either way, it doesn't matter now.

I fired, throwing the ninja stars at the eye while I ran around it. All ten of them hit, evenly spaced out.

The darkness started to disappear. Light shined in, and all that was left was a shard. It was dark, darker than any shade on Earth.

I put the shard in my bag, where it was safe and could not be found.

"First one we saved so far, Mallumo."

He smiled.
