Wrong Place, Wrong Time

"David I... yes!" I hug him and peck him on the lips.  My heart is swollen with happiness.  I have to tell Carli. What will she think? She never thought me and David would last.  We drive back and I stare at the ring on my finger. He reaches over and grabs my hand. Smiling at me. I grin idiotically back.

I walk into work, this time 45 minutes early.  Carli waves at me as I enter. "How was your date with David last night?" She asks tapping her fingers.
"I don't need words to explain," I hold up my hand and show her the ring. Her mouth forms an O shape and she claps, excited.
"Congrats," she gives me a big hug.  "We have to go to the club tonight. We need to party," she says, waving her hands in the air.
     "I don't know. I mean..."
"Oh come on.  We need to celebrate your freedom. Like an early bachelorette party," she grabs my hands and hops around. She freezes and glances over my shoulder. I turn to see the guy here yesterday.  Still typing on his phone.
"Go talk to him," she pushes me with a hand on my back. I lift up my hand and show her my ring.  "Just friends."
I grab a pen and paper walking over to where he was sitting yesterday.  "Hey, what would you like today?" He glances up at me.
"Oh you again, just a coffee. Black," he grins up at me, looking much less aggravated and tired. I return back to Carli and give her his order. She passes my the cup and I sit it on the table. This time I sit down with out him having to ask.
"Thanks for helping me with my girlfriend," he says, looking sincere.
"Oh it was no problem. So I'm guessing things went well?" I grin at him, curious about the events of the messages.
"We....We decided to take a break," his eyes start to welt up with tears. Not like the ones I had last night. His eyes were full of sadness and self pity.  I move to the seat next to him and rub circles on his back. Comforting.  He leans on my shoulder as a tear escapes.
"Hey, you just need a break. My friend and I are going clubbing tonight if you wanna come with." He nods on my shoulder.
"I will think about it," he gets off my shoulder and pulls out his wallet, placing his money on the table and leaves. Leaving me astonished with what just happened. Carli raises an eyebrow at me. I shake my head at her and continue on with the day, after picking up his money with a note on it.
Here's my number, it said.

I had been texting Jack and telling him all the deeds for tonight.
Meet at Club Curtain 8 o'clock if you're coming
    See you there.
The hours tick passed and before I know it it's 6:30. I throw on a black dress and do my hair and makeup.  I text David where I'm going but he doesn't text back. Weird. I grab a granola bar and head out the door.  Almost breaking an ankle on my steps in my heels.  I pull up, serif Carli standing against the wall waving at me.   We wait in the very short line since it is still early and make our way in. I start off with a drink, waiting to see if Jack is going to show up.
"Hey, let's go dance," Carli yells over the music.

It's been an hour and the five drinks have caught up with me. I have to find Carli and tell her I'm leaving. It's only been an hour but I'm exhausted and just want to head home. I stumble through all the bodies in the club. Even more people now that it's later. I squeeze through and look at the bar. I see David making out with Carli. The tears grow in my eyes and before I know it, I've slapped David and am running out of the club. I slid down the wall in the ally. Confused at what I just saw. Was my mind playing tricks on me.
"Carter!! I'm sorry baby. Can we talk?! I know you didn't drive away!!" Now I know I definitely wasn't dreaming. I see a familiar face walk past the ally. David. I take off my heels and run to my car. Where am I going to go? I can't go home, David and I live together. I see another familiar face come running up to me. Jack.
"Carter?! What's wrong?" He asks, holding me up.
"David.... He... He," the words won't come out.
"Come on let's go to my house. We'll get your car later," he picks me up bridal style as my drunk and crying self can't step anywhere without falling. He gently place me in the car and I sleep on the way to his house. Having the same dream over and over. David gripping Carli's waist and kissing him. A never ending torture device.
