One Year later
"Oh, let me see him," my mom crooned softly, walking into Alexander's nursery. Our baby Alex was currently sleeping in his father's arms. I watched in awe as Taylor softly sang to him, gazing at his closed eyelids with the sweetest expression. I smiled.
"It's nice to see you, too," I joked at her, noticing how she just walked right past me.
"I know," she replied flippantly, not moving her eyes away from my precious baby.
"He shouldn't really wake up too much in the night. He rarely does," Taylor whispered to my mom, smiling proudly.
"I can never get over how precious he is. And he's so quiet!" my mom gushed in a hushed voice as her and Taylor made the gentle exchange. Alex stirred a little bit, but he didn't wake up. I went to stand by Taylor's side as my dad came in the door.
"There's two more bottles ready in the fridge. All his diapers, wipes, and ---" I started, but my mom cut me off.
"Sweetheart, please," she whispered in a soft voice. "Your father and I have done this before," she smiled knowingly at me. "You two go out and enjoy yourselves please."
I inhaled deeply through my nose, a little terrified. This was my first time leaving my baby boy since I gave birth to him almost three months ago!
"And Happy Birthday, Rachel," my dad said, snapping me out of my thoughts. Right. It was my 23rd birthday.
"Thanks," I replied weakly. I went over to my mom who sat in the huge rocking chair. I bent down on my knees, right in front of my little sleeping bundle of joy. "I'll see you soon," I told him, kissing his sweet forehead. "I love you."
After another minute of silently adoring him, I stood up and adjusted my dress
"Okay, we should be back by 1," I said, but I hesitated because Taylor's eyes bugged out a little bit.
"No we won't," he said, laughing quietly.
Figures. I don't even know where we're going.
"Okay," I huffed. "We'll be back after 1," I corrected, shaking my head at Taylor. He laced his fingers with my own, pulling me closer to him. My head still spun at the slightest bit of contact from him.
My mom smiled up at me. "Go! Have fun sweetheart, there's nothing to worry about here."
"Goodnight angel," I whispered to Alex. It was Taylor's turn to bend down and kiss him, touching his soft skin briefly before standing up next to me again. I waved goodbye at my parents and my perfect son before turning around and exciting the room. That may have been the hardest thing I've ever done.
When we were seated in the car, I took off my heels immediately, stretching my toes. It's been ages since I'd worn any.
"I already miss him,' I complained.
"Me too, honey."
"So where are we going again?" I asked, smirking at him.
"Nice try, my lady," he told me before handing me the beloved blindfold. "You know me better than that."
"I know," I huffed, covering my eyes and seeing nothing but blackness.
********************* Taylor's POV ***********************
Tonight is going to be the best night of both of our lives. Rachel has no idea where we're going, and I'm going to have to keep it that way for about another hour. I looked over at my beautiful, lovely wife as she pursed her lips repeatedly. All I wanted to do was lean over, caress her soft skin, and kiss her gently. Feel her breath wash across my face. Taste her sweet lips. But I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate me putting our safety in jeopardy like that. It's not about just us anymore, we have the most perfect son in the world to care for now; I couldn't be any happier.
