Heading into the camp, she noticed that almost everyone was done their page and were sitting on the logs, waiting to see what was next. Vera slowly walked out of the trees and went and sat down on a log that was empty. She was in a bit of a shock. That wolf had actually got her back to her site safely. The wolf didn’t try to kill her, she was amazed. Especially considering she ran away from him and once you run the chase is on and they will attack once they catch up.
The wolf was actually very beautiful. He’s fur was pure black and shined once the sunlight hit it and his fur seemed to brighten up his blue eyes. The size of the wolf was extraordinary. Normally a wolf would be about the size of a family dog, but the two wolves she had seen were about twice that size. Another thing that she had thought that was a bit odd was that the black wolf had acted like he knew exactly what was going on. Vera shook her head at the thought. A wolf doesn’t have human intelligence. It just doesn’t happen. The wolf was simply just … just what? She thought. She had no idea what she thought it was. But no normal wolf would have done that. So what made that particular animal have such intelligence and made him help her?
Her thoughts were interrupted by Mr. Lorenzo once he called out the attention of all the students. He proceeded to assign them to the next activity. Once everyone was done with that, they were all on their way down towards the bus.
They were finally leaving to go home. Well, everyone else was on their way home two hours away. After bidding Mr. Lorenzo goodbye he, along with her fellow classmates, left leaving Vera sitting with Vince, the hiking guide. She was waiting for her father to come and pick her up and Vince was keeping her company until he picked her up.
Awkwardly glancing around the area, Vera cleared her throat and tried to think if there was anything really to talk about to Vince. She didn’t want to just sit there and not be talking. Wasn’t it polite to start conversations? But she just met the guy today so really what kind of conversation are they going to hold if they do start talking?
Maybe she could ask him about the wolves around these areas. He would probably know everything there is, right? He seems like he hikes a lot with his broad shoulders, and large arms. If Vera didn’t know any different she would have thought he was a trainer or something along those lines.
Deciding to ask about the wolves that reside in the forest Vera took a deep breath in and asked. “Are there a lot of wolves around here?” her voice was just above a whisper but it seemed like he heard her perfectly fine because in that instance he turned to face her.
“I wouldn’t say a lot but there are a few.” He turned to look at her face, searching to look for something Vera had no idea of. “Why do you ask?”
“I just,” Vera replied hesitantly. For some reason she didn’t want to tell him that she saw two wolves and that one of them helped her. It was too unnatural for anyone else to know about.
“I’m curious is all?” She paused to look at him and saw that his eyebrows were pulled down and he was starting at her intensely. Maybe she should add something else so he wouldn’t look so suspicious of her. “Uh, my favourite animals are wolves.”
Vince didn’t look convinced but Vera sighed in relief once she saw he nodded and looked away. Vera glanced at her phone and saw it had about five minutes after the time her father had said he would be here. She rolled her eyes in annoyance. Of course he would be late, he’s late for everything.
Maybe he forgot, she mused. She should call and make sure. As she searched through her contacts, about to hit her father’s number, loud music blasted and her father’s car appeared in front of her. Surprise filled her face. The car was her fathers she knew that because of the sticker on right back window but he wouldn’t be blasting music so loud and driving so fast.
