Chapter Two
Luckily, classes were canceled for the rest of the week due to too many reported accidents. Being from the South, ice and snow were not exactly people I was accustomed to. I stayed in my single doing work and projects until two a.m. One night, I decided it was time to switch bags. My messenger was kaput and kinda grimy. I dumped everything out onto my twin size bed and scanned through for things to keep or throw away. While searching I came across a business card, Braxton Harrison VII. “The seventh?!” Yes, I was more concerned with his name than the fact that he left his card in my bag. I put the card in the keep pile and kept scanning. After an hour or so, I finished cleaning out my bag and picking another one to use. I sat in my large winged chair, looking out the casement style window at snow falling for the fifth day in a row. I looked down at my lap, my phone and the card right beside each other. I wasn’t sure if I should call him or not or if he would answer the phone or if three in the freaking morning was too early or what if he had a girlfriend. There were just too many variables to consider, so I decided to sleep on it.
I woke up around ten and glanced at my phone, Saturday. I arranged my classes so that I had one free day, Saturday, and a free morning, Monday. Luckily the school doesn’t hold classes on Sundays due to religious belief. Even though I didn’t have any classes to attend, I did have a lecture to see at the business hall at noon. I got dressed, allowed my hair to flow over my shoulders for today only, and made my way to a nearby Starbucks. I ordered a frap and took a seat near a quieter section of the shop. I focused on the TV until I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see him again. He smiled at me with his kind brown eyes and took the seat across from me. “I see you’re still alive and well.” I blushed a little, “Indeed. What brings you here?” He sighed and clasped his hands together. “I have to give a lecture today, meet with some important people for my father and meet the girl I’m supposed to marry.” I wasn’t shocked at his last statement. A guy as good looking as him should be taken, I’d had been shocked if he wasn’t. “That’s a lot to do in such a short amount of time.” “True, but I’ve already crossed off one thing on my to-do list.” “And that is?” “To meet you.” I was shocked to say the least. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you for some reason. I couldn’t figure out what it was until it hit me. You’re unlike any other girl I’ve ever met. They all tried forcing themselves on me to get to my family’s money but you; you were just cool and laid back. I like that.” I shook my head twice in disbelief and opened my mouth to say something, anything. “You are very sweet.”
We talked a bit, ordered more coffee, and talked some more. Before we knew it, the lecture was halfway over. “Looks like the key speaker won’t be making it.” “Don’t worry. I like spending time not having to impress anybody.” “Well you’re pretty impressive the way you are.” Never having had a boyfriend before, I didn’t know that I was flirting with him and that he was flirting back. We were so wrapped up in our conversation that we didn’t notice the cameras flashing away. I guess love really does make you do stupid things. “I should get going before I miss another meeting.” “Yeah, can’t have the heir to the company ruining his connections before they even start.” “Good one.” He smiled and pecked me softly on the cheek. When he parted my face felt like it was on fire. It made me want to scream, but from pure happiness.
