ALEXANDRIA
“How many times do I have to tell you to stop doing that?” Madam Adams said.
“ I'm sorry mam.. It won't happen again.” I said and tried to focus to our new lesson for today.
Unconsciously, I find myself looking at our ceiling to floor window again. You could clearly see our vast garden from our study room. I was staring at a boy maybe around my age.
Who is he? Maybe he is the new worker I heard Mrs. Jones talk about. And as if he knew I was staring he looked directly at me and smiled. I was so embarrassed caught looking so I averted my gaze to Madam Adams again.
“ Okay. That's it for today. I'll see you again tomorrow. And I expect your full attention next time young lady.” Ms Adams said while standing up and walking to the door. “Yes Madam” I waited until she's gone and I looked at our window again. He's still there. Watering our roses. I wonder who he is.
He intrigues me.. I need to find out who he is.
There's a knock on my door causing me to hide my novel under my pillow. “ Come in.” I tried my best to be calm though I think my heartbeat could be heard from another town.
“ Miss. Alexandria, supper is served. You're mother and father are waiting for you.” Mrs. Jones said smiling warmly at me. “Thank you. I'll be down in a minute.” I returned her smile and walked to my door.
I like Mrs. Jones. She's in his late 40s. She's kind and I've known her since I was a child. She's the one that took care of me. She also has a daughter my age that also works for us named Diana. She's my personal servant but I don't like calling her that. She's my friend, my best friend. We do a lot of things together. She knows me and I know her. She's like my dream sister considering I only have an older brother, Blaze.
I hurriedly went to our dining room my mouth watering because of how good it smelled. I sat down at the seat beside my mother. My father sat at the head of the table. Blaze sat at his left while my mom sat at the right side of my father. We gave thanks then started eating our delicious food. I placed roasted chicken, bread, peas, mashed potatoes in my plate.
“Alex my dear, why did you put a lot of food in you plate. It's not lady like. You should always remember your manners.” my mother scolded me.
Blaze snickered and I glared at him.
“ You're mother is right Alexandria. I don't want this happening especially tomorrow that we have important guests.” my dad said.
“Yes father.” I said while quickly placing my food back.
I am scared of my father. He's the richest and most powerful merchant in our town. He's well known to be smart and rich and a lot of people fear him. You don't want to be on his bad side because he can do anything and I mean anything that he wants to do to get what he wants. That's why we're the richest family in London. We own farms, factories, houses... you name it we've got it. Father wants Blaze to be like him. To run our business. And obviously Blaze is his favorite child just because I’m a girl. But I don't really mind. I love Blaze and I hope he'll do well in our business but I also hope that he won't be like our father in the future...
“What are you thinking?” Blaze suddenly asked me.
Dinner is finished and Blaze and I are out in the garden breathing fresh air. “Blaze... do you know who our guests will be?” I asked while turning to face him. “ I heard father talking on the phone last night. I'm guessing that it's the Horans. Do you still remember them?”
Of course I remember them. Bob Horan, Maura Horan, Bob Horan and of course... Niall Horan. Niall was my best friend. We grew up together till they had to move back to Ireland where they also have a business. You see, the Horans and us Carters are business partners. We rule the business world here in London and Ireland.
“ ...blue eyes, blond hair, don't you remember that Niall kid?” my brother asked pulling me out of my daydream.
“Of course I remember him... He annoys the hell out of me.” I smiled while Blaze chuckled.
“ You should sleep now. It's getting late and we have visitors tomorrow” Blaze said while ruffling my hair.
I glared at him. “ Good night Alex.”
“Good night Blaze.”
I'm nervous for tomorrow. I just hope that everything will be okay.
