Chapter 3 Swift Nights

As Leon and Travis start to cut up the edible meat theta had made a fire while knix was standing guard, his massive 30 mm cannon armed and ready to engage at any moment. "Is he always like that," Leon asked looking at knix as he cuts a large 18 oz. piece of meat off. Travis turns and looks at him then nods as he cuts off a 16 oz. piece of meat, "yeah he is programmed to be on high alert when I'm not piloting him." Leon nods and gets up as he finds a large stick and stabs the prowler meat on it and places it near the fire to cook. "Sorry mate don't have spices to make it better," Leon says sarcastically as Travis does the same with his meat and chuckles sitting down near him. "To be honest that is a bummer......but can I ask you something? Why do you fight for whoever pays you the most why not see the true meaning behind this war have you ever stoped and looked around then realize that you might not be doing the right thing I mean like fight with us and for the frontier and the militia instead of the IMC?" Leon looks at him and sighs shaking his head, "to be honest I do t give a fuck on what you bloody 6-4 jack asses think I fight for who pays me most no matter what there is few things that will make people listen and some of those are power money and intimidation well guess what apex has all three of those things. The real question is by don't you join apex where you can have nearly anything you want at anytime," Travis clenches his fist and looks at Leon then relaxes sighing and shaking his head as he grabs the food and hands Leon his. Then they start to eat, after about 20 minutes of eating they look at each other and nod Leon yawning a little. "Damn I'm tired.......it has been a very long day don't you agree," he says as he gets up and walks over to his tone and puts his flatline near his archer keeping his wingman elite on him. "Yeah you're right well i guess we should head to bed we have a long day ahead of us," he says as he finds a nice patch to lay down on, near the fire. Leon nods and does the same but on the other side of the fire. They quickly pass out after an interesting first day together. The next day Travis slowly begins to awake its early morning about 8:45 a.m. He looks around for Leon but noticed that he is missing and so is his titan. "God damnit that damn Ozzie just left me," Travis yells as he punches the ground standing quickly as he walks over to his titan. Then he hears rustling in the bushes and turns with his blade drawn as he sees Leon walking out of the bushes as theta follows close behind him, "thought I left eh?," Leon ask jokingly as he sits down. "To be honest....yes I did," Travis says slightly irritated. Leon looked at him then nods taking off his helmet, "I was doing a little scouting of the surrounding area nothing to fret over.....I need you anyway, can't get out of this hell hole without some help." He said as he pulls out a picture and smiles slightly then putting it away standing as he grabs his helmet. Travis turns to him and ask, "so what did you see while you were scouting the area?" Leon grabs his helmet and puts it on, "a city........although it looks abandoned not exactly sure as why but it looks like a good place to set up an outpost to wait or scavenge." Travis nodded in agreement, "sounds like a good idea in all honesty but how do we know if it's actually abandoned?" He ask as he looks around and sees Leon climbing into his titan. "There's only one way to find out," He yells as his titan turns and starts to walk through the dense forest. Travis sighs and follow suit as he quickly follows Leon knowing that he might actually be right. As they are walking along Travis starts to think out loud, "this damn Ozzie is going to get me killed." As he mumbles that his titanic replies with, "pilot it isn't a good idea to think that way it could destroy the little trust you have." Travis nods and sighs as thy walk, "yeah you're right I shouldn't be but I am I don't trust him but I guess I have to." By this time they have made it closer to the city they can see it fully now as Leon stops and looks around on top of his titan with his kraber Travis opens his cockpit and asks, "see anything?" Leon shakes his head and puts the rifle back into the weapon compartment before responding. "The bloody place looks abandoned, but the power is still on odd." He climbs back into his titan and says, "well lets get going," in a cocky and confident way as they start to enter the city.
