Demi turned over on her side, reaching out for her phone to peer at the time.
It was 12:30am, in just a few hours she would be married. She sighed and turned again, like she'd been doing since she lay down, unable to sleep. She blamed her restlessness on the excitement of the past few months which she had spent planning her wedding along with her sister and her wedding planner.
She had taken time off from work to move in with Jax and devote time to interviewing for a job with another accounting firm in New York who had eventually hired her as an audit manager, a position she'd finally attained at Vanderbilt. She'd had submitted glowing recommendations from her former manager who had eventually left Vanderbilt and moved to another town to open up his own practice.
Initially, Jax had offered her the position of Chief Accountant at his company, having wrapped up the investigation into his former staff whose confession had revealed two other co-conspirators within phoenix holdings, both of whom had been sacked and had faced charges alongside their runaway colleague.
She had declined the offer. If there was one thing she had learned from her mother, it was to always retain her financial independence, notwithstanding how wealthy her partner was or would be. And she would honor her mother by doing that even though she would be wed to a multi-billionaire.
Seeing his disappointment at her refusal, she had promised to consider working with him in some capacity, few years down the line, she had explained how her continued experience in the practice would help her career.
He'd seemed satisfied with her explanation.
A subtle knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.
Padding across her room on the 29th floor of the Maximillian hotel, her eyes widened when she opened the door to reveal Jasper leaning against the doorjamb, half naked and barefooted, his pajama bottoms riding low on his hips.
She grabbed his arm, dragging him hurriedly into her room before glancing furtively along the corridor and then shutting her door.
'What are you doing here?' she whispered loudly, not wanting to make any noise loud enough to alert the rest of the wedding party currently residing on the same floor.
Jax chuckled, amused, and enveloped her in his arms. 'You know the walls in here are sound proof right? And this security door is thick enough to mask any noise we make?'
'That's beside the point Jax.' she huffed.
'I couldn't sleep, the bed is too big...too empty.' he said gruffly, nuzzling her hair.
It was her turn to laugh, 'You managed just fine before we met.'
He sighed, 'What can I say, you've spoiled me.'
She smiled into his chest and then looked up at him. 'I'm kicking you out at 5am, before people start trickling in here to help me get ready to marry you.'
He lifted her and she wrapped her legs around his torso. 'Whatever you say doll.'
They kissed hungrily, discarding their clothes in record time. He placed her onto the king-sized bed, immediately covering her small body with his large one.
He squeezed one soft breast while his tongue and mouth flicked over and pulled relentlessly on the other until she was a soaking writhing mess, and then his hands and mouth switched places, lavishing equal attention in her mounds.
