My first day at a new home wasn't all that bad. Besides the fact that my step mom never came out of her room to welcome me, i had a great time with my brothers. And i was not at all looking forward to tomorrow due to the damn fact that it was Monday. My vexatious brothers spent the rest of the day "predicting" how awkward i would be in a new school with total strangers.
When it came time to go to bed, they took me to the 2nd floor to a room that was big enough to fit all my furniture which would arrive by Wednesday. The good thing about all the years of child support my dad had to pay was that she received enough money to pay for all the boys and save money for a house with 3 floors. That way we could all have our own rooms.
I couldn't unpack just yet. All my room had was a pretty cool mattress stand. No mattress. Just the mattress stand. "Hey Logan? I'm not a vampire, so I'm going to need a mattress."
"What?" He walked towards me looking confused. "I told her to order the mattress!" He got angry and went downstairs and next thing I know he was out of the house.
"Kendal! I need a mattress!' I went down the hall to his room, and knocked. "Kendal?'
"Yeah. I heard. Don't worry. Logan went to go get it from the garage.' He never took his eyes of his laptop, which made me curious.
"What are you doing?"
"Watching porn," my eyes widened as he laughed. "Kidding. I'm actually doing homework. I got 2 more essays to finish."
"You have homework? It's summer,"
"Yeah. But this is like extra credit to graduate,'' he turned to face me. ''Wanna sit?''
''Nah. Logan probably needs me to help him with the matress,'' I slowly turned but his laughter stopped me. I looked at him confused, ''What??''
''I really doubt Logan needs help getting an air matress thats in a box,''
''Wow. You're mom really doesn't like me.'' He stopped laughing when i said that.
''What? No it's not that. It's just that she still loved our dad. And his death. It killed a part of her. All of us are hurt. Mainly her.'' I gave him a weak smile and walked to the back door.
I looked for a good enough spot to lay down. To my surprise they had an outdoor pool. There were chairs set up around the pool on the grass instead of the cool stones rich people usually use. I sat on the one closer to the house. i layed back and looked up at the stars. Before my mom and dad left to get to their flight, they said that if i miss them to look up at the stars and they'll send me all the love and comfort they can. Sometimes, i wonder if they knew that their time had come...
"Kenzie?'' I heard Alex call my name and looked over to see him stand by the door.
''Yeah,'' i sat up and put my feet on the ground. ''I'll be in in a minute.''
''Something wrong?'' He let the door close and walked towards me. I scooded over to let him sit. ''You can always talk to me.''
''Nothing is wrong, Alex.'' I looked at him and saw he was giving me a look that he knew I wasn't being honest. ''I just really miss my parents. They were supposed to be on their way home tonight.''
''I miss dad, too.'' He put his arm around my shoulder and i layed my head on his shoulder. ''Even if we didnt have the father-son times we were supposed to. I'm not at all saying it's your mom's or your fault, because it's not. It's my mom's fault.''
''Huh?'' I looked up at him. Our faces were so close we almost kissed. Gross. He took his arm off and I sat straight. ''How is it your mom's fault?''
''3 months after I was born, our dad caught her having an affair with a CEO of some huge company. He was 60. Had a wife and 3 kids. HUGE house. She was his secretary and since my mom is desperate for sex, she slept with him. That's how we got this expensive designer pool and anything else in this how that's expensive."
''I doubt a pool can be a designer pool... But not the point. Go on,'' He cracked a grin and turned for the door. ''You're walking away?'' He did. Walked away like he didn't just reveal me a secret I had no clue existed.
My mom always told me that dad left because Pauli changed. That she lost love for him and asked for way too much. Mom always said about how dad just didn't marry 'The One' quite yet. But, mom worried that maybe she wasn't the one either.
"Kenzie!'' I looked up to see Logan sticking his head out of the side window that probably belonged to my room. ''Better get inside. It's getting darker and colder.''
''Alright. I'm going.'' I stood up and walked to the door. Before I opened the door I looked up and smiled. Goodnight Mom. Goodnight Dad. I love you both.
