Chapter 4

I opened my eyes and saw the sun shining through my window to my face. Ugh. Monday. Although It was spring break. They still sucked. I sat up on my air matress to see the time that the clock on my night stand had. 6:02. Too early to be up...

I layed back down pulling the covers over me and turned, so the sun wouldn't bother me. I closed my eyes when I heard my phone vibrate. I turned again and grabbed my phone off the stand. It was a message from my best- and only- friend Camila. "Goooodmorning Kenzie! How was your night at le stepmother's ? LOL JK I miss you alot though. Txt me when you can. Im headed to school. Ttyl."

I closed the messages and locked my phone. I got up and walked to the bathroom that was not far from my air matress. I took all of my clothes off and got into the shower. Just as I got in, i realized that I hadn't unpacked my shampoo, body soap, toothbursh, toothpaste and just the usual leg shaving lotions and razors. I even forgot to take out the towels. I opened the door to make sure no one was there. I ran over to the closet that I had put my bags in and looked for the suitcase that had the bathroom stuff. Just as I saw it, I heard a knock on my door.

"Who is it?" I said looking through the back trying to find my silk bathrobe that my mom had given me.

"It's Alex. I just came to ask you if you wanted to go out and get some breakfast. Logan had some thing to do at school, and Kendal left for work. And my mom went to go pick up some of her medications...''

''Sure." I said walking towards the door making sure my robe covered my body up. I opened the door slightly. "But, you're gonna have to give me a couple minutes."

"Ok. See you at 7." He smiled and walked over to his room.

After dressing i went down the stairs looking for Alex. ''Alex?'' No one answered. Maybe he changed his mind and left by himself. I went back upstairs to check my iPhone. 1 New Message. It was from Alex. "Got a call from my gf. I'll be back in 10." He sent this 45 minutes ago. I guess i should go sit outside on the swing porch.

I saw a black volvo car when I opened the door. it was my stepmom. She was back. She got out the car and i saw a healthy well dressed Pauli. She has... blonde hair?? Well I guess she dyed it.

''Kenzie! Honey. Nice to see you again. It's been quite a long time since we last talked." She had this sorta raspy deep but soft voice.''How have you been handling your loss?''

"Alright,'' I gave her a warm smile. She wasn't exactly my favorite but I didn't dislike her either. "I heard you've been sick? Are you... feling better?"

"I just have a sore throat. The medicine is pretty effective. Although it has me sleeping alot. That's why i didn't pick you up."

"It's alright. Is this a new car?'' I gestured to her car and she smiled.

"Being the secretary of a CEO obviously has its perks." She gave me a big smile and just walked inside.

I sat on the vintage (and obviously expensive) swing. I took my iPhone out of my purse (which was only $30 dollars) and dialed Alex. The phone rang but no answer. I tried again. Still no answer. I sent him a text telling him im still waiting for him. I checked the time and it was 8:23. He told me he'd be back in 10 an hour ago... I was starting to worry. Maybe he started arguing with his girlfriend. Or she had an emergency. Or worst of all, he had breakfast with her and forgot about me. My phone vibrated. I looked down and saw it was a message from Alex.

"This is Nadia. Alex's girlfriend. He's kinda busy right now. He'll pick you up in 10."

Great. His girlfriend.
