Sealing the deal

I was sweating like a mad thing. It was dead near the Witching Hour of Midnight and I had my poems in one hand and "Don Quijote" in the other. I was waiting for him.

The sound of  motorboat was to be heard in the distance. Then, in the green light, I saw the boat in question and I heard someone making a sweet rendition of "O sole mio" from within that boat. It was beautiful, and the words went like this:

"O sole mio,
Don't know the words,
I've got the portrait
And feel absurd..."

When the boat reached the pier, I saw it was Jay. I laughed again. He had the framed portrait and he was holding it with one arm, prooving some sort of physical strength by achieving this deed. He descends from the boat and onto the pier. Before touching the green light, he said this only:

"You know what I meant to say to you there?"

"What?"

"I love you."

Then we touched the lamp both at the same time. The word-mist begun forming around us again...
