"i'm so sorry for worrying you, jimin. i should've been there earlier." taehyung gripped jimin's arms around him even tighter. "i'm so very sorry-"
"tae-" jimin made a grunting noise. "i think-" gasp. "you're crushing-" another gasp. "my arms- ack!"
taehyung quickly realized he had an iron grip on jimin's arms and immediately let go, apologizing even further. he walked with him to the living room as he kept hanging his head down in shame.
"jeez, i told you already, tae, it's alright! my arms are fine for the most part. what matters is that you're here!" jimin reassured taehyung, ruffling his hair and giving that smile of his that never failed to lighten up the mood.
taehyung realized that smile was probably what yoongi fell for all those years ago. unfortunately, the latter wasn't there with them since he was overseas, on some sort of business trip. it didn't surprise him that the two lovebirds were also business partners.
taehyung suddenly recalled how he left jeongguk like that and ran off like the wind that sailed throughout that night. he scowled as he wanted to apologize quickly, imagining himself bowing in deep regret in front of the famous artist. his pangs of guilt that suddenly coursed through him only encouraged that scenario to be recreated into reality.
"hmm? tae, you've got that look on your face!" jimin's cheerful, but wise words rang throughout the mansion that probably costed more than taehyung could conjure up from taking countless jobs.
"what look?" taehyung asked, now holding a curious face.
"you know, that look that you make when you're deep in thought or something! your eyebrows scrunch together like this." jimin imitated taehyung's look by scrunching his own eyebrows together, although with a lot more exaggeration. "it makes you look like such a cute puppy!"
"puppy...?" taehyung said in slight disbelief.
"that's right! my cute, lovable, squishy, puppy!" jimin pinched taehyung's cheeks with every adjective that spurted out of his mouth.
after more blissful teasing and a tickle fight in the living room, the two best friends sat side by side with each other on one couch even though there were two other couches they could've taken up. they were completely not focused on whatever show was playing on the t.v., and instead talking to each other about their days, their conversation topics including which character in an anime was better to what they would do if they walked in to each other snorting cocaine.
(both of them answered that they would join in on the snorting.)
they were talking so smoothly, almost as if they couldn't give a damn about the world if some post-apocalyptic war were to happen and they were the only two humans left.
as fancy and mature jimin looked with his stylish looks and former attire, he was an enthusiastic and chipper person. of course, acting his best during important events was one thing, but discussing which plushie he had found and wanted to buy online was cuter was another. taehyung had never felt so relaxed and nonchalant around anyone else, and everyday was a rollercoaster of events whenever he was with him. from injuring each other on accident or sometimes on purpose to seeing who could drink more shots then both passing out and waking up to dreadful hangovers, a day with jimin was always a day of fun to taehyung.
as for how he found jimin in the first place... well, taehyung would rather not dive into the dark, dark details of past events.
"so, what was that look of deep thought back there?" jimin chirped up.
taehyung drank from the hot chocolate the butlers made them, the drink already warming his body with one intoxicating sip. one sip turned into two, two into four, four into... however many. at this point, he practically looked like a drunken man chugging a beer glass.
"okay, 'mr. i-chug-hot-chocolate-on-the-daily,' that's enough out of you. answer my question," jimin laughed.
"fine, fine. hmm, my... look of deep thought, huh?"
taehyung remembered that quick and subtle instance, trying to piece together what events led him to such an uncommon expression of his. and as he fit the puzzle pieces of today together, his once lively smile faltered. he fiddled with his fingers as his hesitation to speak up about it grew as colossal as the grand chandelier looming above them.
"my pocket watch..." taehyung sighed, panning out at the end. "i lost it."
jimin knew he had struck a nerve already. "oh, taehyung... are you sure you didn't simply forget to bring it with you when you went outside?"
"no, i know i brought it outside. i remember i opened it a few times when i went to jeongguk's..."
"taehyung?" jimin gently asked, trying not to stir up the boy more than he already was.
a look of realization came to taehyung's face. "that's it, jimin!"
"huh?"
"let me meet jeongguk again!" taehyung's idea rang throughout the mansion that probably costed more than he could ever conjure up from taking countless jobs.
but if he could conjure up this idea into reality, perhaps an apology to jeongguk and getting his pocket watch back wasn't so far fetched at all.
