Ch.2

Sienna let out a sigh as the two entered into the house, a fond smile on her face as she would always remember how Josh would greet the lovers as they came over for visits.  He loved getting hugs from Sienna and the young woman would always kiss his forehead and gift him with a fond smile.  "Hello? Hello?" Alex called out.  There was no answer causing the two to frown.  "I don't like this." Sienna said.  "Neither do I, its to quiet in here." Alex said.  They went up the stairs and Alex went into his parent's bedroom while Sienna went into the boy's room. 

Alex saw nothing was missing in the room, checking through the drawers and closet.  He shook his head then headed into the bathroom to find clues in there.  He spotted a cassette tape on the sink and picked it up.  "Weird, why would mom and dad have this in here?" He muttered.  Alex stuck the tape in his pocket then left the bedroom.

Sienna walked into the bedroom Alex shared with Josh and smiled when she saw Josh's bug collection along the wall.  Josh loved collecting bugs as much as he loved painting.  She could spy a couple of Josh's paintings that were hanging up.  Sienna moved over to the bookshelf and pushed the books aside to find a switch and pressed it.  The bookshelf swung open to a closet that was filled with boxes.  The young woman smiled sadly as she remembered finding Josh hiding in here.  The kid hated when Adam would yell at Alex and took to hiding behind the bookshelf until Alex would come and find him.  When Sienna had found out about the hiding spot, she would often sit with Josh in her lab as she sang Lullaby by Fall Out Boy to him.  The song always seemed to calm Josh down and she would do it when she knew Adam was being an ass.  Sienna left the closet, picked up the flashlight from Alex's bed, and headed out of the room.

"Anything?" She asked when she spotted Alex.  "Just a cassette tape." Alex said.  The young woman was going to reply when they heard the attic door slam shut.  "What the hell?" Alex said.  "I don't know, let's head back downstairs and check the basement." Sienna said.  Alex nodded and the two headed down the stairs when Sienna noticed the trail of water.  She pointed it out to her boyfriend and the two headed down the stairs.  They entered into the living room and found Lilian Shepherd sitting in a rocking chair.  She was wearing a black dress and had her hair pulled in a bun.  "Mom?" Alex called.  He slowly walked closer to her.  "Mom?" He called again.  Lilian looked up and gasped as she saw her son with his girlfriend.  "Alex, what are you doing here?" She asked.  "I was discharged.  I was in the hospital for a bit but I'm ok now." Alex said.  Sienna frowned at her boyfriend but said nothing.  "You've been gone for too long." His mother said.  "Yeah but where is everyone? Where's Josh?" Lilian was silent but she shook her head.  "I don't know, your father went to look for him.  But he's gone now, just like everyone else." She said. 

Alex shared a look with Sienna then turned back to his mother when he spotted the gun in her lap.  "What the fuck is going on?" Sienna muttered.  She saw Alex slip the gun from his mother's lap and promised her that they would find Josh.  Lilian stayed quiet as she looked out the window and the two left the living room.  "I have a feeling that she was in the basement." Sienna said.  "I think so too." Alex said.  The young woman pulled a knife out from the waistband of her jeans, grasped Alex's hand, and the two made their way down the basement stairs.
