Toni pov

"She what?"

"She lost a lot of blood. She is in the process of getting a transfusion. If you wouldnt have opened up your door in time, she wouldve died. The bullet went through her shoulder and she could have bled to death."

"Is she going to be alright?"

"Yes she is in our recovery unit. You can go visit her if you would like. She should be up."

"Whats her name?"

"Timea Brown."

"Thank you."

We walked to her room and I heard her sniffing. Tamar waited outside the door so I could go see what was wrong.

"Timea?" I said as I walked through the door.

"Yes?" she said.

She looked like she was in so much pain. I felt bad for her.

"How are you?"

"Im fine." she said. She wiped her tears away. I wasnt going to force her to talk to me.

"We need to call your parents and let them know what happened." I said.

She lowered her head and I seen tears hitting her blanket.

"I cant call them."

"Why not?"

"I just cant." she mumbled.

I walked out the room and an officer went in the room. I found Tamar and she was in the phone with our mother.

"Mommy here is Toni."

"Hey Tone. How is she doing?"

"She's doing fine. They are about to give her some blood because she lost a lot on the way up here and when she was in surgery. I told her that I needed to inform her parents on what happened but she told me that she couldnt."

"Why not?"

"I dont know. She started crying again. I walked out and I was coming to find Tay. I needed her to be in there with me."

"Well mommy we will call you back after we finish talking to her."

"Ok and Toni?"

"Huh?"

"Do the right thing."

She hung I before I could say anything. What did she mean by that?

Timea pov

The officers came in and asked me what happened and how I got shot. I wasnt really cooperating with them. I didnt want to be known as a snitch. I didnt want to say anything. But one way or another the truth will come to the light. About everything. My moms death, the abuse, the drugs, the alcohol, his death, and my trama.

"Timea please tell us what happened. We are only trying to help you."

"I cant." I said.

Then Toni and Tamar walked in the room. The officers whispered something to them and they walked out.

"Can you tell me how I got here?" I asked them.

"Well I was on the phone and I heard someone beating on my front door. I looked out my window and you yelled for help. I opened the door and you collapsed on my floor. I noticed that you were bleeding and I moved your backpack and I noticed that you were shot. I tried to stop the bleeding on my own until the ambulance came."

"I dont even remember any of that. I just remember all of the other stuff happening."

She signalled Tamar and she left the room. I noticed that her hands were covered in blood.

"Is that mine?" I asked as I pointed at her hands.

"Yeah."

Her hands started shaking a little bit. I think she was getting nervous.

"Im sorry." I said.

"For what?"

"For disturbing you. You should've just let me go."

"I couldnt do that. You are a child and you seem like a nice person. You deserved to live."

"Yeah." I said.

"Can you tell me what happened?"

"I don't know."

"You dont have to say any names. I just want to know so I can get you the help that you need."

I dont know if I should tell her. It seems like she really wants to help me but I just dont know.

"Please?" she begged.

I sat back and tried to get comfortable the best way that I could. This bed was so uncomfortable and I was in so much pain. I took some deep breaths and I began.

"I was at home reading a book when my dad and his boss came back. I knew it was them and I hid in my closet. They are always looking for me."

"For what?"

"What other reason would a drug dealer be looking for an innocent girl?"

"Oh."

"Yeah thats why I always lock my door and hide in the closet. They were having their normal conversation. Then they started yelling about money and how much it should be. I guess my dad has been in debt to long because his boss yelled out seven shots."

"What dies seven shots mean?"

"He's going to shoot him seven times. When I heard that I put my book in my bag and climbed out the window. I forgot that my window was next to the living room window. The first shot that went off hit me. They came to see if I was dead. I just held my breath and he rolled me back over. They left the door open and I seen them shoot him. He was begging for mercy and they didnt show any. They shot him one last time and it was in the head. The way I was laying I seen the whole thing and now I have to live with yet another memory like that."

"Another one?"

"Yes."

"What else happen?"

"Just some stuff that happened when I was 8. I dont want to talk about it though."

"Its fine. Where is your mom?"

"Dead." I said.

She had the saddest look on her face. She didnt know what to say. I just felt really bad now. She has to deal with me being here and now she is worrying about me.

"Im fine though. I just have to figure out some stuff and I'll be alright." I said

"How old are you?"

"14."

"When is your birthday?"

"March 30th."

"Ok. Ill be back. Do you need anything?"

"No I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

She nodded her head and walked away. I dont know what she was going to do but I hope she makes the right choice.
