First Day

The weekend passed by too fast for my liking. My room was done. I had literally moved in now. Hattie is leaving while Kennedy and I are in school. Yup, you heard me. Today I start in my new school, which I still don’t know if I appreciate or not. I don’t want to go to school, at least not until a couple of weeks. Maybe in November.

Right now Ken is driving me with her. To say that I was freaked out by the driving ways here in London was an understatement. First of all before we even got in the car, I was already waiting by the driver’s seat like I would to in America. I hadn’t completely grasped the idea that cars here were backwards. That was embarrassing.

When we got to school everyone was looking at me while Ken waved at almost everyone that looked our way. She took me to the front office so I could pick up my schedule.

“Good Morning, Sandy.” Ken called smiling at the 60 year old lady at the front desk.

“Good Morning, Kennedy.” Sandy smiled back at her before looking at me. “What can I help you with today?”

“This is my cousin, Noelle. She’s new to the school. We’re here to pick up her schedule.” Ken said.

“Oh, sure thing, sweetheart. Just give me a minute.” Sandy stood and went to look for my classes.

“Is she always that friendly?” I asked Ken. She nodded her head.

“I was class president last year spent a lot of time in this office and the principal’s.” She said pointing at a door behind Sandy’s desk, which I assume was the principal’s.

“Here you go darling, your schedule and a school map.” I thanked Sandy for my papers and then Ken said goodbye and we left. She tried to explain the schedule to me and marked where I had to go on the map but I still didn’t understand a thing. Then she just left me at my locker since she needed to hers to get her morning books. The bell rang just as I slammed shut my locker. I watched as everyone scattered around to go to their classes. I looked down at my schedule and map trying to figure out where I needed to go.

I walked around for a while before I reached my first period class, Spanish.  As soon as I walked in I felt a bunch of eyes burning through me, I walked straight to the teacher though who was standing in front of the room.

“You must be the transfer student.” He said smiling over at me. He looked like he was in his mid-to-late twenties. He had light brown hair and blue eyes and he was tall. He was good looking. I snapped out of it and gave him my schedule.

“Class this is Noelle. She’s from California. Be respectful.” Then he turned to me. “Welcome to London Academy.” He gave my schedule back to me and told me to sit wherever. I chose a seat in the back, sitting next to a guy with blonde hair that was brown at the roots. He looked at me while I sat down and I saw his piercing blue eyes.

“Hi, I’m James.” He introduced himself. I thought I heard an accent but I wasn't sure.

“Elle.” I said because I really didn’t like when people called me Noelle. It’s weird. He smiled and I reciprocated. He was cute I have to admit but then again who wasn’t in here? I haven’t seen anyone remotely “ugly” in the 45 minutes that I’ve been in this building. I turned my attention back to Mr.- Senor Williams and hoped the class would end soon.

After Spanish, Ken met me outside the door to walk me to photography our second period class. In there I met two of Ken’s friends, Rita and Shana. They seemed really nice. Rita is a little too wild and straightforward and Shana is funny and bubbly. For third period I had history with Ken and that was interesting to say the least, the teacher Mr. Leandre taught the class standing on top of his desk.  For fourth period I had calculus but that wasn’t as interesting as history.
