Chapter 4

Hurrying down the street, Andrew pulled out his mobile and called George.

“Hi, I’m on my way now. I’m about twenty minutes away. See you soon.”

“Great, I’ll put the kettle on.” George said.

When Andrew arrived in George’s office he was handed a hot cup of tea and led to the chair in front of the desk. Andrew thought, “What I really could use is another pint, or maybe a brandy.”

“So tell me what happened,” said George.

“Very strange thing; and I don’t mind telling you it upset me. I was on my way to see you and thought I saw Meghan. You know she has been missing for nine years. You remember.”

“I certainly do. A bit hard to forget when your childhood friend disappears off the face of the earth like that,” George said.

“I called out to her, but she didn’t respond. When I grabbed her arm, I really scared her. I didn’t mean to, but she was so afraid she swooned, and I caught her before she nearly hit the ground. Of course it wasn’t really Meghan, but she does look quite a bit like her in many respects. Anyway, I took her into a pub to sit down, and we ended up having lunch. The really weird thing is, her name is Megan.”

“Weird, indeed.”

“Turns out to be a lovely lady. Recently lost her husband in that big airline crash that was all over the news; remember? She is here on holiday. I asked her to go to the zoo tomorrow with me. You know how I always go in the spring. I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Conversation turned to their business at hand, and there was no more discussion of the strange incident.
