FRIENDS OVER FAME

"What are you saying, Mr. Grace?"
A loud and deep voice boomed and Jason flinched at the thundering echoes of the council. Behind him, his best-friend ─ Reyna ─ stood behind him; feeling slightly hesitant and remorse for the son of Jupiter. Feeling nervous himself, Jason cleared his throat.
"I said I do not accept your offer of transferring me to the First Cohort," the boy repeated, as clear as day. After defeating Krios and helping the Greeks with the battle of Manhattan, the council figures that maybe they might have underestimated the boy from the ungratifying Fifth Cohort. So, as a reward, they decide to give him the chance to exchange from the dreaded and unlucky Fifth Cohort, all the way up to the First.
But Jason didn't want it.
All his friends and allies were all at the Fifth Cohort. He didn't want to leave what he considers as family behind. As much as the reward seems to be like an honorable offer, the son of Jupiter just didn't accept the offer.
He didn't want all the popularity nor glory ─ he just wanted to do what was right.
And leaving the Fifth Cohort was anything but right.
The elder glared at the young boy. "Do you have any idea what you are throwing away, boy?"
Jason's back stiffened with pride. "Yes, I do my lord," He cried. "And as much as I appreciate the offer, I have a family on the Fifth Cohort. And I do not think that all of you treat them by skill, you treat them by their flaws. You do not treat them as equally as you do with the other four cohorts - and that is just unfair."
"What?! No, we treat all our cohorts equally-"
The son of Jupiter cut him off. "Seeing the way you have treated me all those past years when I first arrived?" He snapped. "I wouldn't think so."
The crowd suddenly glances at Jason, seeming quite offended. Before anyone was about to sentence him to dish duty or stable-scraping, Reyna decided to intervene.
"If I may be of intrusion," the daughter of Bellona began, placing a supportive hand on Jason's shoulder. "We can, perhaps, suggest a different reward?"
The council paused and looks at her, very intrigued. The son of Jupiter looks at Reyna questionably as she slung her arm around him happily, blush slowly forming on her cheeks.
"Maybe the title of Praetor will suffice?"

I actually posted this on my messege board but, meh, I wanted to share it here :3
In here, it happens during The Last Olympian in the PJATO Series in which Reyna still sorta had feelings for Jason and the war is won and the council rewards the blondie with the priveledge of being brought to the First Cohort ─ which, apparently, was a big deal.
But knowing Jason, he's all heart than fame. So, he (gently) declines it.
I mean, it's interesting how a humble (and stubborn) guy such as Sparky would want the Praetor position, so since Reyna was already a Praetor I assumed that she was the one who suggested that Jason would become her right-hand guy.
Anyways, it's not that good, but I tried :D
Gracefully Yours (see what I did there),
