Twelve

"Hello." I say bending down and smiling at the little boy.
"Hi."
"Welcome to the orphanage."
"Thank you." He says quietly.
"Lana?" I say looking up at the door.
"Yes sister?" 
"I need his file."
"I'll put it on your desk."
"Okay thank you Sister."
"What's your name?"
"Timmy."
"How old are you?"
"5." He looks like he's about to cry.
I open my arms up to him and he walks over and hugs me tightly.
"It's okay hunny, I'll take really good care of you."
"Will you be my mommy?"
"In a way, yes."
"Why do you wear that black thing?"
"I'm a nun."
"What's a nun?"
"Too difficult to explain Darling."
"Okay."
"Let's go play with the toys, I've put over here."
"Are there any other kids?"
"No, not yet."
He starts playing and I struggle, but manage to get up.
I lock the door to the children's common room. I don't want the crazies to make it to him.
I walk into the regular common room.
Kit runs to me and looks terrified.
"What?"
"I think Grace is in labor!"
"What!?"
"As in there is a baby coming out!"
"I know. I know..... Where is she?"
"In the chair over there."
I walk over to Grace and grab her hand.
"Come with me."
"Okay." She says out of breath.
"Kit, help me." I take Grace to Arden's old workspace.
"Lay down."
She does and she spreads her legs, I gasp. The baby is right there!
"Push. The baby is right there."
I sanitize my hands quickly and cup my hands.
She grunts and pushes and the baby's head comes out. I smile at the baby and then Grace let's out a blood curdling scream as she pushes again and the baby comes out completely. That was way easier than I had anticipated. I sterilized a pair of scissors and cut the cord, putting the baby on her chest.
I sigh and look at him. He's gorgeous.
"He can stay here and we'll say he's part of the Children's ward."
"Thank you so much sister!"
"I do what I can."
"Why are you so nice all of the sudden sister?"
"I have my reasons." I say and smile.
"I'll leave you be, I'll be back in 20 minutes. Don't make me regret leaving."
"Alright sister."
