I hung on the ledge, grinning.
Tanya looked towards the boy, "I think it time you introduced yourself, don't you? "
The boy straightened up, " first things first", he said as he extended his hand to me.
I grabbed hold and was swiftly pulled up, a short boy quickly went to work sealing up the entrance.
It was a narrow tunnel, about two meter high and two meter wide, not spacious but enough room to run.
I looked to the boy, tanya followed my example, pushing him to finally introduce himself.
The boy sighed while simultaneously lifting up his black hood, a scar ran the length of his face, from his right eye all the way to his left cheek.
But this didn't make him look ugly, it only enhanced his charm, making him look stronger and wiser.
"Fine then, " he finally spoke, "nice to meet you, shadow, " a tinge of humor over my name, "I am Shane, leader of the orphanage, " he finished.
I stood there dumbstruck, "uhm, ah, o---o--ok, " I ended un gracefully.
He smiled, " come then, let me show you around, " he took off his cloak in a single swift movement, and began to walk down the tunnel.
Tanya gestured for me to follow and swiftly did the same.
The tunnel wasn't dark, even though there was no sun or moon light, the torches placed at five meter intervals kept it brightly lit.
After a few minutes of walking, we came to a spiral stairway, it went up about fifteen meters and went down, well as far as the eye can see.
I gasped at abyss below me and turned to Shane, " what is this place? " I asked.
Shane looked up, " that there is the orphanage headquarters, " he then turned his head to look into the abyss, " and that is the underbelly of graum, the city under a city, " he said gravely.
"But don't worry about that now, you won't get a key to the under city until much later, now come, meet the rest of the crew, " tanya piped in.
Tanya and Shane ascended the stairway, I was still stuck gazing at the abyss, something about it drawing me towards it, "come on then, " Tanya's voice broke me out of my trance.
My excitement renewed at the thought of a home and family, I eagerly raced up the stairway.
I spent ten years of my life, living in the wall, stealing from the market district and pickpocketing wealthy fools, but I never once set foot into the abyss.
