My name is Alex I'm a senior in high school and my life is pretty normal. I have supportive parents and a younger brother, but I don't get good grades. In fact I get really terrible grades I have never been a good student there's nothing wrong with me but I find school boring and not useful. The conversation of L.A. Started on a day where as usual I was failing one if my classes and my teacher had made me get a paper signed saying that my parents wanted me to either retake the test or just fail. I came home from school and told my mom about the test she was making me retake the test even though I would probably get an even lower grade. I have been considering dropping out of high school for about three months now I have always wanted to move to L.A. and it seems like the right time considering my life isn't going to magically going to turnaround in the next four months.

" Mom I have been thinking of dropping out of high school."

"Why would you want to do that?"

"My grades have never been very good and we all know that that is not going to change in the next few months I've never liked school and I can do so many things with the acting credits I got if I move to L.A."

"We will talk about this with your father." My mother says sharply

I walk upstairs my dad is fairly understanding they both know that I hate school and have wanted to leave for a while now I have just never been is open in saying I want to leave.

As I go down to dinner my mom dad and younger brother are sitting at the table eating in silence. I sit down at the dinner and then my brother speaks

"Are you actually going to let her leave?" He questions my parents

" that's what we need to talk about." My mother responds

"I only want to leave because I could be so much more successful in L.A. I am just wasting my time in school I can't finish failing all of my classes."

" your mother and I also need to discuss how you would have enough money to live in L.A. it is a very expensive city. And you can't live off of tips for the rest of your life."

I work at a restaurant and it pays terribly but every once in a while I will get a generous costumer and everything is taken care of.

"I'm thinking of auditioning for movies when I get there it's what I have wanted for a while and I have enough money to live off if for a little while." With that I walk upstairs taking my food with me.

I'm sitting on my bed texting my best friend Parker

Me: My parents don't think I can move to L.A. on my own :(

P: My parents won't even consider it

Me: I think my parents are considering it but I don't think they want me to drop out

P: your lucky mine are very determine on me going to Yale or Harvard

Me: so I guess I'll see you tomorrow in school

P: sure

The next morning I meet Parker at her locker

" have your parents said anything more about L.A." Parker questions

"No"

"Mine definitely aren't letting me go." This is no surprise to me Parker is the perfect student. She is also the most rebellious out of anyone I've ever met she is outgoing and never wants to do what her parents say but somehow she can get her way with all of the small things.

One month later

"I'm finally going to L.A."I say to Parker over the phone.

"I wish I could go with you." She says and I can tell she's sad we always wanted to go to L.A. together but her parents won't let her because she's to smart to drop out and I quote would waste her academic gift. So now I'm leaving for L.A. alone to a one bedroom apartment and a tutor who will continue to teach me until I would actually have been out of high school if I had stayed.
