"Joane, is it?" Joane looked up from her cup of coffee. She stared back at the officer and nodded.
"Yes. What is it?" She asked kindly.
"Could you describe your kids to me? Appearance, clothing, blood type, anything that might help the investigation." He offered. Joane leaned back in her seat and looked out the window. The rain was starting to slow down but it didn't make her feel better.
"Alright," She breathed and looked back to him. "Michael is only ten. He has the most beautiful hazel eyes a-and.." Joane felt herself get choked up and looked away. "I can't. I can't talk about it. Maybe I can just give you some photos? Will that help?" Joane asked. Officer Cade nodded.
"It will help more than you know." He said as he smiled at her. Joane didn't miss that look though. She saw how his expression seemed forced. Trying to give her hope. Joane almost wanted to scoff at it. She reached forward and grabbed his hand. He seemed a bit surprise but allowed her to hold his hand.
"Thank you, officer. You have no idea how much this means to me." She smiled, her eyes staring into his dark brown ones. Cade stiffened for a moment before grabbing onto her hand with his other.
"It's my job. We'll find your kids, and wherever your kids are, so is whoever who took them." He nodded. Joane breathed.
"And you're sure they were taken?" She asked, biting her lip.
"Very sure. We've checked all hospital records in this town. I'm sorry." He said. She lowered her head with a nod of her head.
"Right...right..." she whispered. She then let her eyes lay on his hands. She smirked for a moment before smiling sweetly and raising her head. "Your not married, officer?" She asked. The officer almost jumped out of his seat at that. His eyes went wide.
"N-no. I am not." He said firmly. He released his hold as he looked down at hers. "I see your not either. Yet you have kids." He pointed out. She let her hand slide away from his hold.
"Yes. I'm...I'm divorced. It's complicated. I don't really want to talk about that." She said as she grabbed her mug and took a sip.
"Oh, I'm sorry." He said with furrowed eyebrows. Joane placed her mug down carefully.
"You didn't know." She said with a small shrug. "So, Officer Cade, tell me about yourself. What made you want to work for the police force?" She questioned, leaning forward. He paused at that.
"I like upholding laws." He shrugged. Joane narrowed her eyes slightly.
"That's it? You don't care for the people?" She asked tilting her head. His eyes went wide as he hurried to correct himself.
"W-well y-y-yes but l-laws keep people safe right?" He asked. Joane snickered.
"Officer, that's not something you answer with a question." She teased. His face began to flush in embrassment, or anger Joane didn't know.
"R-Right. Well I think that's enough about me...and you. I need to head back to work. Would you like an escort home?"
"Oh how nice of you but I think I'll manage." She said placed her hand under chin. He nodded and slipped out from the booth. He gave her another nod before leaving. Joane snorted and leaned back in her seat.
Joane took another sip with satisfaction. Did he think she was dumb? Did he really not expect her to see the To punish and enslave on the side of his patrol car? And did he really expect to find out where she lived that easily? Joane knew she was being played so she went with it. Because she was playing him just he didn't know it. Did he really think all females are this weak and head over heels for anyone that comes to their rescue? Joane wanted to gag at the thought. She's been much too well experienced to know when she's been played. And she knew how to play right back. Joane didn't know what he really wanted yet, but she intended to find out as she looked for her kids. She intended to give him the least bit of information possible. She didn't trust him nor his boss. She may have not been trusting from her not trusting police at all but this felt different. And she listens to her gut feeling cause its usually right. She watched the officer get into his car and drive away. A smirk forming on her lips. "Check, please."
