Chapter 1 - Two Months In

A cloudy day in this city again. A feature that never seems to go away… Day in and Day out… How long has it been? I’m still staring at the sea… Waves of calm envelop me as I watch the sun start to die down; however still high up.

“Haah” I yawned out “How long can I keep this driving thing up…”

I failed time and time again; but I did get it right at one point. It is a testament to the skills which I, Sunohara Youhei, possess. My eyes start to wander away from the sea and soon realized I wasn’t alone. A lone girl gazing beyond the horizon with long shimmering silver hair that dances in the breeze wearing a T-shirt as well as a long skirt is quite a ways off from me.

“Now, that’s my type.” I said to myself “Better go walk there.”

She then turns her head to my direction. Her gaze allures me enough to make me stop. She was still looking at me or is looking past me. Although her stare intrigues me, her smile bothers me. Empty, it seems that her smile is; yet she has it. I might have changed my expression but not my intention, so I start to walk again; but this time faster.

“Don’t even try me, boy” the lady yelled out.

“Boy?!” I exclaimed “Who’re you calling boy?!” I replied.

I soon had my pace close to a jog closing into five meters away from her.

“Already taken…” the lady said. I could barely hear her.

“That’s not my intention.” I said as gently as I could “I just wanted to talk.”

Although hitting on her was my prior intention, she won’t give in that way. Lessons learned from rejections are paying off.

“Ah…” she said as she turns back to the sea.

“So… What are you doing out here by the sea when it’s this cold?” I asked.

I could have done better than that opening but I press on.

“I came to see the sunset.” she replied “How about you?”

She’s still looking out even as she replied.

“I came to relax.”

The waves are starting to reach closer and closer to our feet.

“Ah…”

She looks at her feet… She didn’t even realize the water touching her feet.

“Let’s go to higher ground” I suggested.

She then bends down and splashes water at me.

“I can’t let this pass…” I thought

I also splash water at her; only concentrating at the top section as well as her face.

“Hahaha” she laughed.

I posed for a guts pose and she hits me square in the face. Through all this, she is laughing.

“We’re soaked.” she said “Let’s go up.”

We both run to higher ground and the water raging fast and laughing as we go. Upon reaching the destination, the water produces a loud yet soft crash.

“I guess fun’s over, huh…” I whispered.

“…It doesn’t have to be….”

“Huh?”

“Nothing… Nothing...”

“Guess we better dry up…” I said “Where do you live, I’ll drive you.”
