Thanks for all the covers you guys sent me❤Parker's POV
The long grass were like bIades. Their sharp edges made tiny cuts into my arms as I ran through the black forest. The trees surrounded everything, and now I couldn't even see the hiking path I had come from. They towered over me like giants, waiting to devour their meal. I felt small. And I could not help but sweat at the uneasy feeling that was forming in the pit of my stomach. I was lost.
From some point on, the path where the assaultant had pushed through was gone. I could not see anything but the black sky, and the darker black of the trees and bushes. Everything was black.
But I went on. My eyes had adjusted to the darkness, enough to see that I was walking forward into more vegetation and not off a cliff to my doom. Just hoping this would work, and to make sure that I wouldn't forget the way I came from, I never turned right or left. I just went straight forward. It felt like forever.
After what seemed like endless bushes and trees, I finally came across a thin pebbled pathway. Taking up speed, I rushed through to find a small brick cottage that I could see was lit with a blurry yellow light.
I banged on the door of the cottage. When nobody answered, I ran around it, looking through the windows and checking if they were open. Despite my efforts, I had no luck. Tripping on a jutted rock, I scraped my arm against the rough walls.
I crouched down to catch my breath, but immediately stood back up when I thought of what Tiana would be going through right now. I had no time to be sitting around. She needed me.
Running into the cottage, I found it empty. The emptyness was rather startling, because I was expecting that there would be a fuss inside. Instead, the silence hit me with an ominous fear, and I ran straight down the stairs where I expected her to be held hostage.
Hearing something, I slowed down in the middle of the stairs. It was a quiet whistle of a merry tune, I could make out the notes of Jingle Bells. I balled my hands into fists.
I tiptoed down the stairs and peeked down. Luckily, the man had his back towards me, busy doing something on a desk. I took a moment to measure his figure.
He was tall with dirty blone hair, body quite built. I was afraid I couldn't take him down. Thankfully, I had a weapon on my side, something that he didn't have. Surprise. One critical blow on the head would knock him out without having to confront him. I just had to hope that his whistling would cover the sounds of me shuffling down towards him.
I descended the stairs and across the room towards him, careful not to ruffle my clothes. Up close I saw a flash of his face and was shocked to see that he was quite handsome. In my head, I had pictured him as a buff, scary looking man with stubby features, his nose caned like a hook. But here stood someone looking substantially different from what I had pictured. I had to doubt myself if I had even come to the right place.
I was so caught up in his appearance that I did not notice the pen lying on the floor. With a crack, I stepped on it, and I grimaced. So much for surprise.
The man didn't turn my way immediately, and chuckled to himself. "You're early," he said and knowing this was my only chance to take him down, my fist immediately connected to his face.
He was astonished by the sudden violence, toppling onto the desk next to him. He looked at me with a flash of fright which quickly retorted to anger when he found that I was alone. Trying not to give him time to recover, I kicked him in the stomach, making him grunt in pain as he fell to the floor. I got on top of him and started to beat him.
