At the edge of the river bank, Elsie was washing clothes from her old woven basket and scrubbing board while her husband Roberto was finishing up there one room dilapidated galvanize home. Here they would begin there life long journey together as a married couple. Elsie had seen Roberto at a construction site in San Juan and they soon became friends. Soon she began teaching him English. Life in Venezuela was becoming difficult, so Roberto came to Trinidad to seek employment and he started working with Mark a Tradesman from the area. After working small contracts with Mark he had saved enough money to purchase a ring, the diamond was as tiny as a needle's eye but the love he had for Elsie had cuddled and embraced the ring.
He came back from work on Tuesday 6th June, 2006 sweating profusely he was ready to pop the big question.
"Seniorita Elsie, I love you!" Three words he had learnt well through Elsie's tutoring. But teaching Roberto was difficult for Elsie as she didnt know much Spanish, only English and a bit of Hindi.
Elsie stepped back as if she knew the moment was comming.
"Te casarias conmigo" Roberto exclaimed with glistening eyes of love.
Elsie exclaimed, " Are you crazy?"
Roberto astonished, "Que Pasa?"
Elsie weeped, "You can't even speak we language, " as if that was the problem. Elsie was hiding a secret which she kept ever since she found out that she can't have kids.
"Eso es aceptable, podemos ambos vivir en la parcela de tierra que conseguí de tía Beatriz." Roberto muttered.
After seeing the needle sized diamond on the ring, she a bit hesitantly and quietly murmured , "Si, Yes." Not even aware of what Roberto said.
So basically that was there romance, which brought us to here, where Elsie and Roberto both married and were about to build a house of there own. Scrubbing away her clothes at the river's bank, she saw a flash of light and in between the yellow, green banana trees she discovered a huge golden egg.
"Roberto, come yuh ass here fast!!" Elsie screamed.
"Que Pasa?"Roberto shouted.
"Look at that huge ass thing! " Elsie exclaimed and pointed.
Roberto exclaimed, "Es hermoso"
Slowly and cowardly going nearer to the object, they realized it was cracked. An arched wing , was poking out of the cracked egg.
Roberto shouted to Elsie who was on the other side of the river, "Es un pájaro"
"Bird?" Elsie was confused and she went closer to Roberto. Roberto cracked open the egg and saw a baby boy.
Roberto cried, "Mi hijo debe ser un regalo de los Dioses."
Elsie cried, as he raised the baby boy, the wings disappeared as if they were never there. "Wow , the Gods must really love us."
She took an "Orni " which her great grandmother had given to her when she was a kid and filled it with all the pieces of the egg except for one which was stuck under a rock by the banana tree. She made a huge knot and took it back to there old shack and placed it in a flowers pot.
Elsie looked at the hazel brown eyed baby. "What should we name him, Roberto?"
Roberto exclaimed, "Se parece a mi abuelo, Alejandro."
"Alejandro! what a great name", replied Elsie.
This was the name given to the baby boy. They were so happy, not knowing how there lives were about to change.
