Chapter 16: Mysterious Past

Cliff Sanctuary

Ethan

"Sure, sweetheart." I said with a smile. She smiled wide because for once she is going to finally know the real me. "What do you want to know, babe?"

"Everything!" She was shaking with anxiety.

"Okay, well, my name is Ethan Jay Michaels, my dad was a mechanic and my mom was an angel." She held a shocked expression on her face.

"Like and actual angel? In heaven with wings and a halo?" I laughed when she said a halo. They don't actually have a halo, I mean they do it's just not visible. So I just nodded. Surprise took her face. But I just continued. "My mom was the answer to my dad's prayers. He asked for someone to be perfect for him, someone to complete him in every way and God sent him my mom, Sara May." She gasped at the mention of my mothers name. Why? Did she know her? "He was working on one of his cars when she came to his garage and said that her car broke down just a mile back and that she needed help. The moment they laid eyes on each other, my dad said that it was love at first sight. They got married on their 5th date and then 6 months later they were married. And then 2 years later I was born. My mom and dad were so happy together until one day when I was 9, my mom was called back to heaven so she can return to her duties. About 3 months after she left, my dad got really sick and died. There was a rumor that he had died of a broken heart, the doctors say a heart attack, but I know better. He died because he was depressed because my mom had left. When he died I wasn't really sad because I like to believe that he left so he can chase after her and have their happy ever after in a much better place..."

"Wow, babe I had no idea." She leaned down and touched my cheek to wipe my tears away.

"Yeah, it's okay sweetheart, no body really knows." I said and smiled at her to show that I was alright.

"Honey, can I ask a few questions though?"

"Of course, babe."

"Who did you live with if both your parents were gone?"

"My Uncle Roy."

"If you're mom was an angel, then what does that make you? Are you still human, since technically an angel is a human?"

"Yes and no..."

"What do you mean?"

"Yes I'm a human, like I can't go to heaven and back like my mom can. But I do have wings like her, but they're not white. They're silver." I looked down because I've never told anyone about them before. Her eyes got wide in astonishment.

"You have wings?!!"

"Yes." Just then I leaned forward and flexed my back muscles and then with a rip and a gush of wind my feathery, silver wings stretched out and her eyes widened and she reached towards them and started running her fingers through the feathers.

"They're beautiful and really soft too."

"Thanks!" I smiled. I thought her reaction would be different, I thought she would've laughed and made fun of me, like my dad said they would. But she didn't. She didn't call me a freak. Maybe she is different. I put them back to where they were hidden from sight again.

"Okay, uhm...what's your favorite color?"

"Light green." She blushed and looked down at my answer. She smiled.

"Why me?" Her question caught me off guard.

"What you mean, sweetheart?" She was looking down at her lap twirling her fingers. Then she looked up at me and I could see her eyes watering, like holding back the tears she didn't want me to see.

"Why me? Why do you want me of all the other girls at school? Why do you want me over Grace?"

"Because I've always loved you. I never liked Grace but like I said I started to fall in love with her but she doesn't make me feel like you do." I smiled hoping she'd believe me. When she looked back down in her lap I could see she was smiling that beautiful smile she has. The smile that made my heart stop and made all my butterflies go crazy in my stomach.

"Okay, I have one more question?" She looked up at me.

"Uh huh?"

"You said your mom can go back and forth, to here and heaven. So does she come visit you?"

"Yes she comes and visits me on my birthday and on Christmas if she's not busy."

"Oh that's good."

"Now I have a question!" I said and smiled.

"Okay?"

"Why did you gasp and looked shock when I said that my mother's name was Sara May?" She looked down and cleared her throat like it bothered her.

"Because that the name of Grace's mom that walked out on her and her dad just a few months ago without any warning or goodbye. When Grace asks her dad about it he avoids it as much as possible." Shock overcame my body. WHAT!?! Grace is my half-sister? I was in love with my half sister....
