Good lord, i think to myself, as I walk into a murder scene. “What is that awful smell?” I ask to no one in particular. “That, special agent James, is the smell of a cut up human being.”
“good God, who could do something like that?!”
“Yeah i don't know but there are two victims. One is alive with a bullet wound to her left shoulder.” He pauses as we walk through the doorway. I walk over to where the bodies had laid. “Victim one was a male. We were able to get a fingerprint analyses before they took him. His name is Zac Andrews, married to Maria Andrews, who we can not get a hold of at the moment.” says the New York police officer, Mitch who is showing me around. “and what happened with victim two?” i ask pointing to the splatter of blood on the bed. “Victim two survived her name is Victoria Johnson, and get this, Victoria is related to Maria Andrews and she is the wife of our dead victim.” i walk away, over to where the decapitated body was. “what was the murder weapon?” i ask examining the blood on the ceiling. “Well first the killer shot both victims. We think that the killer shot Mrs. Johnson first and then shot at mr. Andrews, one bullet to each knee. Then took Mr. Andrews body and started cutting him up, joint by joint.” I nod. “Do you have an idea on who did this?”
“No not yet but we think the motive was revenge.” I nod again writing down what he has told me into my note book. “What forensic lab is all of the evidence being sent to?”
“It was sent to the NYC Forensic lab.” “Okay thank you.” i say and he turns on his heels and leaves. I stay to look around some more. i look at the messed up sheets on the bed. there is a blood splatter mark on the bed where victim two, Victoria, must have been laying when she was shot, but it appears as if she must have tried to get off the bed.I mark that in my notes. On the right side of the bed are two blood stains were victim one, Zac, was shot in the knees and also I find smear marks, parallel with each other. this must be when the killer drug Zac’s body to cut him up. ugh i hate having to say that, it just sounds so wrong. I can’t understand how someone could cut up another being alive, no matter what the motive is. Its just plan wrong. I walk around the motel room some more trying to see if the investigators missed anything. It doesn't seem like they missed a dime. I walk back outside to find Mitch so i can ask him some more questions.
“Officer Mitch.” I say.
“Yes special agent James, how may I help you again?”
“Was there any other witnesses that may have been around at the time?”
“None to my knowledge.”
“Who made the 911 call?”
“It was an unknown. The caller called from a pay phone and wouldn't give us their name or anything else for that matter.”
“Thank you. If a witness is found please contact me.” I give him my card and he tells me that he would let me know, so I walk back to my car and head back to the office to see what else i can find out.
At 7:00 A.M i get a call from officer Mitch saying that they found someone that happened so see a person walk out of the room the night of the murder. So I head down the precinct.
“Special detective glad you could make it, right this way.” Says officer Mitch as he beckons me to follow him. He leads me through a number of halls and to the interrogation room where a lady sits. The women was short and kind of plum. she had fairly thin black hair. You could tell she was someone who has to work a lot of double shifts.
“Hello I’m Special agent James, and you are?”
“I’m Velma Sands.” she stands up to shake my hand.
“Pleased to meet you, please sit. I would like to ask you some questions about last night.”
“Oh yes of course, I’d be more than happy to help.”
“Yes, thank you. What were you doing there so late at night for? Most people would be in bed.”
“Yes, well you see, I work there and I was cleaning the room a couple doors down when I heard the gun shots.”
“Do you have any witnesses to prove you were there?”
“Actually yes, a tranny she didn't see anything because i told her to stay and let me go take a look.”
“Mmm hmmm, and could you give me an estimate on how far apart each shot was?”
“I would think it was all less than two minutes. It was like BOOM (a three second pause) BOOM, BOOM. The last two were right after one another.”
I nod and take down notes in my notebook and ask another question, “Okay so you said you saw someone walking out of room 27 of the Bates Motel?”
“Yes, I did.”
“If I were to bring in a sketch artist would you be able to give a good description of the suspect?”
“I could try.”
“Could you give me a brief description of the suspect right now?”
“Yes. The person was a woman, she was about 5” 8’ and she was carrying something in her hand, but I couldn't make it out. She was dressed in a red shirt and had jeans on. Thats all I could tell you.”
“Okay. Then that is all I need from you. You are free to go. Oh and thank you for your cooperation. We appreciate it alot. Well get you in to see the sketch artist asap and then you can go. Please,” I say handing her my card. “Contact me if you remember something else.”
“Yes of course I will.”
I leave the room and officer Mitch goes and takes her to the sketch artist. We should have her picture with in about two hours so that gives me enough time to go check in with the forensics lab.
