As a kid, did you ever think about growing up, falling in love, and getting married and plan out your dream wedding with your dream guy? Well, I never got that chance. Hi, my name is Peony Evans, and I live in a small town, the only town left actually, called solarsville. Legend is, way back in the 2100's, something so terrible happened to humanity that we had to get rid of all men, and it was the only way to keep us alive. Which, in hindsight, doesn't really make sense, if you need certain... things to make a baby. "Peony, honey, when do you plan on going to the bank?" Ever since I turned 18, my mom gets on me a lot more than she used to about making an appointment for the bank. She started "giving me the talk" when I started puberty, which is common. Something about not wanting to wait too long and my "biological clock" running out. "Maybe tomorrow mom, I have too many classes at SVU today" I said. "Okay hun, but you know the age limit for the bank now is 20. We can't take any more risks wasting materials on 30 yr olds who are no longer fertile" she explained. "I know, mom. I'll do it soon, I promise." Truth is, I was scared. I didn't think I was ready for a kid yet, with everything on my plate, and the age limit doesn't make it any less stressful. I wish I was born 1000 years ago so I could just meet the love of my life, that would be way easier. "Shoot, mom what time is it?" I asked as I was on my way out the door with an apple in hand. "It's 9:23, hurry up before you're late!" She said. "Alright, alright, I'm leaving, love you!" "Love you too, have a good day at school!" She replied. My keys jingled as I lifted them off the hook, and I opened the front door to see a classic 1967 black Chevy impala. She's my baby. Some might say she belongs in a museum, but I love the old stuff from that era. I unlocked baby, hopped in the drivers seat, and played some Led Zeppelin as I drove to school. Yes, I love the old music too. You can't play anything else in this car, it just doesn't fit, otherwise you're a heathen. As I drove into the campus parking lot and parked baby, the lot was empty as usual since no one even drives anymore. I just don't trust those teleportation thingy's. I looked down at the car's clock which I have set perfectly. 9:28. Perfect. Since I've never been late a day in my life, I jogged through the front doors and all the way to my classroom. "Morning Peony," my teacher, Ms. Fauxworth, started. "Perfectly on time once again, you're probably the only student who ever is!" She laughed. The bell rang and more students started to enter as I was already at my desk ready to take notes. I'm probably the only student with an A in this class, and the rest of my classes as well. The rest seem to be okay with straight B's. Pathetic. I've always excelled in school, which is the reason I'm in college at this early of an age. Most people my age are on track to graduate high school at 19, and I'm already in my second year at SVU. 2 more to go, and then I'll be working at the bank. I don't really want to do that, but it's really the only good paying job around anymore, so if you actually want to survive in life you have to work at the bank, any other job doesn't cut it anymore. My mom works there, my grandmother worked there, and so on. It's been in my family forever, and I guess I feel obligated to carry it on. "Today is Friday, so study for that exam on Monday! We've been reviewing the material this entire week, if you study this weekend you should be able to get through it. Also, don't forget to hand in those final drafts of those 20 page essays on my desk today. You are dismissed." The bell rang. For the first time, it sounded foreign to me. Being in school is a good skill of mine, but I've never liked it too much. I guess everyone feels that way, but I've just always felt different from everyone else. I just feel like our system is so messed up. They expect us to graduate and either have a kid or go to college right after. If you decide to have a kid, you are automatically certified to work at the bank. If you decide to go to college, you must finish before you reach age limit, which I'm lucky enough to probably do so, since they knocked the age limit so low, which is complete bullshit. I don't understand why we got rid of men. What did they do that was so terrible we had to kill every last one? I just don't buy it. I've always felt something was off with our government. Maybe I should do some research about it when I get home... but mom never liked it when I asked questions like this... what if she's hiding something too? I guess I'll have to find out for myself.
