"She saw," A deep voice stated.
"What do you mean she saw?" Another responded.
"I mean she saw everything, Brendan. She knows," The first man responded.
I blinked my eyes rapidly, trying to fix the blurriness I was seeing. Finally everything became clearer as I sat up from the couch I was laying on. This wasn't my house.
"God damn it, Lucas!" I heard a glass shatter. "You can't be so careless, you could get us all killed! Do you know what they'll do if they find out about us?" The man yelled angrily.
Suddenly the memories all flooded back at once. The party. The woman. The blood.
The... vampire.
I rubbed my head and glanced around the room. The front door was close by. All I had to do was run.
I peered over the couch which was in front of an archway that led to the kitchen. Nobody was in sight.
With my heart racing, I quietly stood up from the couch. Then I dashed to the door, slamming my hand on the door handle to make my escape.
But I failed.
A tall man beat me to the door, slamming it back shut before I could even open it all the way. He had the same crimson red eyes hungrily reading into mine. I was the prey. His bushy eyebrows narrowed sharply, examining me with a sense of curiosity. He had black hair that looked soft like feathers and a sharp jawline, wearing black jeans and a black v-neck t-shirt. He was intimidating, yet... intoxicating.
"And just where do you think you're going?" He smirked.
I was stunned with nowhere to hide. I couldn't form words, but my body language showed it all. I looked away, not making eye contact. He knew I was scared. And that amused him deeply.
"Home," I finally managed to get out, trying to sound stern.
He shook his head, arms crossed over his chest with his shoulder leaning against the door, "No, no, no. That just won't do. Not after what you've seen, pretty girl."
My heart picked up speed. "I won't tell anyone," I stammered, looking him straight in the eyes. "About the woman, the blood... any of it, anything that I saw."
He placed his hand on my cheek and grazed it with his thumb. "If only I could believe you," He whispered, almost seductively.
Then, before I knew it, his hand were strong around my neck.
"Brendan!" The other man's voice called. That one must be Lucas.
I could see Lucas walk towards us out the corner of my eye as I struggled to fight free from Brendan's grip. "You can't kill her. The police are already onto us and will be even more suspicious with so many disappearances in the same place."
Brendan dropped his hands to his sides, letting go of my neck and holding onto my arm tightly. I gasped for air, inhaling and exhaling frantically trying to breathe. Brendan's eyes changed from blood red to a bronze gold as I watched him turn his attention to Lucas.
"The p-police..." I gasped for air, "They know about you?" I looked at Lucas.
"Not entirely," Brendan said, looking down at me in disgust. "As long as you don't talk." He spat.
He despised me, loathed me.
"I swear," I looked between both of them. "I swear I won't say a word."
Lucas approached me. He had light brown messy hair and soft, golden eyes. He had an innocence to him, he seemed caring, with delicate features. He was beautiful.
They were both so... breathtaking.
He looked at me for a moment, as if trying to decide what to do with me.
Then he turned to Brendan, "Just erase her memory."
I tensed up, "M- My memory?"
They both completely ignored me as if I hadn't said anything at all. Brendan his hands on my shoulders and held in place. I tried to struggle free, but he was impossibly strong.
"This will only hurt a little," He smirked.
His eyes turned a deep brown shade as he stared into mine. I was waiting for something to happen, for this moment to be over. Yet I felt nothing, I felt no different. He let go, staring at me curiously as if he knew something hadn't quite worked right.
Lucas walked over and opened the door for me, motioning for me to exit as if he wanted me to leave before I could remember where I was... if the memory loss had worked. Brendan didn't seem so sure. of himself as he glared at me suspiciously. I looked between both of them. Was this some sort of trick, or did they actually trust me? I finally backed towards the door, then I ran. I ran out and down the street before either of them had a chance to change their minds.
I looked around, trying to figure out where I was. I wasn't far from home. In fact, I lived just a few streets over.
I walked up to my house, bracing myself for the lecture I knew I would get from my mother. Ever since my father left us, she's been constantly worried about me and my 10 year old sister, Taylor. She's always trying to make sure we're okay and not bottling up too many emotions.
I opened the door and walked inside, "Mom?" I yelled. "Are you home?"
I closed the door behind me. My mother ran down the stairs, quickly pulling me into a hug.
"Where have you been? I was so worried!" She said, holding my shoulders.
"I'm sorry, I lost my phone so I wasn't able to call you..."
"Your friend Michelle brought your phone over," She said, digging my phone out of her pocket and handing it to me. "She said you ran away from her in the woods or something, where did you go?"
"Nowhere," I responded quickly. "I stayed at a friends house. I was just... so tired after the party. It's not a big deal." I moved passed her towards the stairs. "I'm going to shower, I'll be down in a bit."
I gave her no time to respond as I ran up the stairs and into my room, shutting the door behind me.
I sighed heavily and tossed my phone onto my bed. I looked in the mirror of my vanity, my mascara smeared all across my eyes and down my cheeks. I rubbed at it, trying to smudge it away when I heard a voice behind me.
"Well, sounds like you are good at keeping secrets," Brendan said smartly.
I turned around and leaned against my vanity. "How did you get in my house?"
"Your mother should really start locking the doors, Evelina," He picked up one of the picture frames on my nightstand, examining it.
I glared at him, "What do you want?"
"I know you still remember everything," He slammed the photo back down, staring at me hardly. "The memory loss didn't work on you."
Just as I was about to respond, he ran up to me and placed a finger over my mouth. "I'm not going to let you expose our little secret. I'll be watching you. At all times." He whispered, his golden eyes piercing into mine. I could feel his hot breath on my face.
"Just remember... it isn't difficult for me to get into your house." He smiled devilishly.
The next second, he was gone.
I ran over to my now flung open window and looked down as the curtains waved around me. There was sign of him, yet I could still feel his eyes all over me.
I slammed my window back shut and pulled the curtains together.
What have I gotten myself into?
