The Christening was a very grand affair and when it was nearly over ,one by one, the good fairies went up to the baby's cradle to bestow a gift upon her .One gave her a gift of virtue , another beauty and another wealth and soon the baby princess had everything that one could ever wish for .When the eleventh fairy had just bestowed her gorgeous on the baby , the thirteenth fairy , furious at not having been invited , entered the room .
" I'm going to give the princess a gift which will never allow you to forget me again ," she shouted and without greeting anyone she cried :" On her sixteenth birthday, the princess will prick herself on a spindle and will die !" And without uttering another word she left.
The whole company was dumb with horror at this terrible gift .
Then the twelfth good fairy stepped forward as she still had to make her wish for the baby princess.
She had not the power to lift the wicked curse , but she could ease it and said ," Take comfort in this , the princess will not die, but will fall into a deep sleep for one hundred years when she pricks her finger on the spindle ."
