When the hands are gone from inside her head, and the shadow in the room disappears, Larissa begins to dream deeply...
She stretches out across Greenhaven. Her delta waves turn into the tides and currents of the Sacramento River. Her pillow is a low grassy levee; her mattress is made up of many houses.
A small figure in red, a girl, watches over Larissa while her giant form slumbers there... but there is no face to be seen. The head is bowed in a state of grace and sorrow.
There are sounds in the dreamscape: faint sirens and shouting on the horizon growing louder and louder. But still, in a rare moment of peace, Larissa slumbers on...
What finally wakes her up is the smell of something wonderful coming from the kitchen. Larissa's dad has brought home fast food for dinner again...
She shuffles out of her bed to get the fries before they get cold. Only when she is halfway there does she realize that she doesn't hurt anymore.
She's healed, she's hungry, and she's happy again.
