Still laughing I nod. Peter flies out of the water and hovers over the surface, he leans down and offers me a hand, I take it and he pulls me out.
"Okay," Peter says, "Off to the Indian camp."
"Oh no Peter! Don't go!" beg the mermaids, "It was only a bit of fun!"
"Yeah I know," Peter replies, "But I want to show Mels here the rest of the island."
They continue to protest, but Peter's stopped paying attention. He releases my hand, which I hadn't realized he'd still been holding, and starts to fly off, I follow.
Flying helps me dry, but of course makes my hair a wavy frizzy mess. And I surprise my self by being in such utter bliss that I simply don't care.
I see the smoke before anything else. When we land no one really pays us any attention. A couple of younger children wave and Peter waves back.
"Come on, Mels!" Peter shouts, "You gotta come meet Tiger Lily!"
"Alright!" I laugh and follow him.
We go into one of those big tepee things and inside is a man, woman, and two daughters. The younger one jumps up to hug Peter, then turns to face me.
"Hello," I tell her, "you must be Tiger Lily. Please just let me say I've heard quite a lot about you, and I believe you to be quite worthy of role-model-ship." Not saying anything she merely smiles at me and nods.
Peter says to her, "This is Melody."
"Hello, Melody." She says to me.
I then remember that they don't know much English and then feel bad.
"You wet?" Tiger Lily says. "Come by fire." She then leads us out of the tepee and towards a large bonfire in the middle of the camp.
Slowly as it got darker more and more people headed towards the fire and at some point food was beginning to be passed around and I couldn't help but notice how much I loved it here in Neverland.
Earlier, Peter had let Tink out and she now flew about everywhere. And I smiled. I hadn't felt this happy in a long time, and I self-consciously pulled on my sleeve.
It got darker and darker and the party got louder and louder until Peter heard me yawn and said to some one that we had to leave.
"Why'd we go?" I asked him after we were a good distance from the people.
"Cause I want you to meet the lost boys."
"The hangman's tree?" I ask. New excitement circling through my veins.
"Where else?" Peter responded with his smile.
