I stare into the night with the light of the half full moon faintly shining. The house is silent as I wait to make my way out the front door. I've been planning this for the past year. leaving was the only thing on my mind. I've always hated this crappy town and state. Well, mainly the city. People at school were awful and had barely any friends. Only one gal who was my friend, and a guy. I've grown fond of the guy but, let's just not get into that. I had to deny them since I'd be running away. We are a thing however. The distance was an issue and still will be. He had moved recently.

An Hour Passes

I grab my bag with the essentials in it and check my phone's battery  on it, 50% battery. I put it back in my pocket as I go downstairs. The living room's empty. I quietly open the front door and walk out, locking it again behind me.

"This is it.." I whisper to myself.

I cross the streets and find refuge in an alleyway. I close my eyes to catch my breath, but I hear a pebble roll. I reach into my other pocket and reach into it to grab my pocket knife I was given.

"Who the hell are you?" I ask, flipping open the knife.

"Whoa! Calm down!" a rugged, but gentle voice says.

Instantly I recognized the voice and closed the knife. A growl escapes my throat. I also drop my bag and walk up to the person.

"Don't fucking do that!" I say through clenched teeth.

"I'm sorry, ok?" the person says.

"Bullshit dude." I manage, while holding back a chuckle.

"Come on now, why would I scare you on purpose, you should be surprised too, I ran off in a sense to visit. Don't treat me like a practice target to use the pocket knife I gave you on."

"You didn't utter a word about visiting!"

"Haha yeah, wanted it to be a surprise for tomorrow, but what are you doing, and what's in your bag?"

"Why does it matter, John?"

"Shush, use my middle name as a cover up."

"Call me Record then, ok Antonio?"

"Fine, but you still haven't answered my question."

"I have one of my own."

"Answer mine first, please."

"Fine..I was going to run off and try to manage life on my own, I hate it here, and when you left I felt evermore alone then I have in my life."

"Why, just why?"

"You fucking know I hate it here, you know I'd rather go out alone then stay here without real happiness in my life!"

"I get that, but it's not acceptable. I'd rather you be safe and finish school so you can come back with me once you're a grad. Getting in trouble wont help that at any, ok?"

"How did you even find me here,  yet alone see me get out of the house?"

"Don't change the subject. Answer me, will you please promise me that you'll go home after we finish this conversation."

"No, I will not."

"Please babe. If you finish out in 2019, we will finally be free of people's bullshit and it'll only be us."

I look to his face in the faint moonlight. There's a want and plead in his eyes. He's serious. I don't want to go home. I want to be with him tonight. I want to be truly home, in his arms.

"Could I possibly come with you for a bit?" I ask sheepishly.

"I can't object that, it's been a year at most since I've seen you, but need to check if everyone is asleep at my place first. I'll come get you after I let you know in text, ok?" he replies.

"Ok, love you."

"Love you too."
