Chapter One
I saw myself, as a young girl. Just as I entered my pubescent stage of life. I was unaware of the dangers to come. Who would've known a small innocent girl had that type of power. It's almost like something unlocked and opened a whole new world as my tenth birthday arrived.
A girl was just stretching as she arose from the bed. The young girl, who was me, looked around with big expectant eyes. Suddenly, a knock was heard on her door and the girl yelped with excitement. "Mommy!" I chuckled, watching the replay of the day pass. If only I knew my life were to change that same day.
"Hey, hunny.." My mother spoke softly as she allowed herself in. Swooping my child self up into a hug. "Happy birthday." Kissing the young girl's forehead; I gave a smile at the memory.
I walked up to my mom, even though she couldn't see me, I stroked her cheek gently. So gently I had treated her, as if she was as fragile as glass. "I miss you, Mom." My eyes welled up with water, having to blink them back I let out a sigh.
"Scarlett!" I saw little me perk up at the sound of my father. "Come down here Scarlett, I got something for you!" She had looked towards my mother for approval, with her nod she had happily jumped down and ran to my father. I followed after, trying to see where it all went wrong.
Little Scarlett's eyes brightened up as she arrived at the beautiful cake on the table. "Oh, Daddy I love it!" Then she heard our Dad cough and she turned to face him. She processed what she was looking at and shrieked. "You got my a puppy!" I giggled remembering when I first saw the pup. "Thank you! I'll name.. erm..what is it?" I chuckled along with my now gone father. We were so happy...
"Silly, it's a boy. I know you probably would've wanted a girl.." My father trailed off, with a sad smile. "But this one just seemed so right for you." His eyes glimmered with hope that she would still love the male dog just as much as she would a female.
Little Scarlett had studied the little black dog carefully, then with a smile on her face, "Oh, Daddy he's perfect! I'll call him Cerb!" If only she knew, I laughed quietly at myself. Stroking the pups head with tremendous amount of affection, she whispered, "You'll stay with me until the very end, won't you?" Those words were to stay true even to the world outside of my memories.
The pup barked as a response, like it was agreeing to staying with me. That should've been a sign something was unlocking. Something big inside my mind. Too bad I was too young to comprehend what was to come.
"Seems he already has taken a liking towards you." My father smiled at his daughter and at himself for picking the perfect pup for his little princess. "Well, we should cut the cake!" Young Scarlett was even happier at the thought of cake. She nodded hastily; man did I look like a bobble head..
In that moment, everything changed for the worse. At the very moment of May 27, 2308 at 8:57 in the morning. All things, had fallen out of place. No longer were we a happy family, but instead a broken one. Missing the pieces of the happy photo we called family.
The door had been slammed open, and in came people with guns pointed right at me. "I ask you to hand her over now, or else we will be taking her by force." The little girl knew of nothing going on, she just inevitably started to cry and held her puppy close to he chest. Instinctively, the dog growled at the intruders.
I watched aside in terror, reliving the dreadful things to come. Not being able to do anything as the assailants shouted orders to grab me at all costs. Just then my father threw himself in front of me sticking his arms out defensively. He looked back at me with great love in his eyes, "Run, I love you.." Those were his last words I heard him say, before he was gone.
