The man had a rougher appearance. His hands, one holding a well-used looking compass, Katelyn noted, were grimy. He had very long, dark brown hair, the same color as her own, she noted. His hair was rough looking, and he had a string of beads among the abundance of hair. He wore a very well worn hat. His skin was tan, as if he had spent many a day in the sun. His clothes were a whole new matter entirely, well worn, his coat made of the same material as his hat. He wore boots, which of course appeared well used. One feature Katelyn couldn't miss though. That was the sword sheathed at his side.

Her mom and stopped talking in the time she had been studying him. The man swung around, and she got a good look at his face. He had a mustache, and a beard of sorts braided into two strands. To her horror there was a scar  near his right eye. His eyes were a beautiful brown, just like her own.

"I need to go." He said, with an accent that was slightly different from her own, much more coarse and less refined. His voice was rich and commanding, she liked the sound of it, and deep down, she felt as if she had heard it before, although she could not remember from where nor how long ago that was.

He brushed past her, not paying her even a glance as he walked out, bringing with him the strong aroma of rum. Katelyn wrinkled her nose when he passed her, and once he was gone she turned to her mother.

"Who was that?" Heck, if she hadn't known how much she hated pirates, she would've thought that he was one!

Her mother was quiet. Obviously Katelyn wasn't supposed to see him. Her mother's silence was all she needed to know. Without a word to her mother, she wheeled and walked out of her house, schoolbooks still in hand.

Once outside, she breaks into a run, finding the man striding confidently down the street, straight for the harbor.

They reach the harbor, and Katelyn falls behind him a little so that he won't know she's following him. He goes straight for the beautiful black ship, and just outside of it, on the dock, he walks up to another man.

"Mister Gibbs. Is the ship fully restocked?"

"Aye, Captain. The last crate of rum is being stowed in the hold as we speak. Did you finish with whatever you came here for?"

"Yes Mister Gibbs." He lowered his voice when he continued. "I saw her, and..." he paused and took a deep breath. "I saw my daughter."
