A girl made her way up a hill. She couldn't be more than 9 or 10 years old. Her piercing green eyes shone in the bright sunlight of the warm afternoon. Her red hair blew behind her slightly in the wind. Once at the top of the hill, her eyes spotted a boy. His black hair and onyx eyes stood out against his pale skin. She smiled at the boy and he stood up to greet her. A smile of his own was also upon his face. He said something to her. Though, she did not hear it. And before she knew it, darkness spread and engulfed her.

The next thing that could be seen was the ceiling fan slowly turning as it was just turned off. The next thing that was noticed was a voice of an older female.

"Lily hurry and get up or you're going to miss the train. We can't have that now can we?"

The girl laying in bed turned her head to look at her mother and groaned. She was still tired. Her night was filled with excitement and little sleep. What 13 year old girl wouldn't be excited to go to a magic school. This would be her first year. And unknown to her, the next 7 years will prove to be an adventure in itself.

Green eyes (which were still half open) watched her mother leave the room. The door clicking as it closed. Slowly, Lily turned onto her side and yawned before sitting up and getting out of her warm bed. Her barn owl (named jasper) hooted at her softly.

"Well good morning to you too, jasper." She replied back to the owl before walking into the bathroom to take a quick shower. Her trunk which was already packed laid at the foot of her bed.

As she began to undress from her nightgown, Lily looked at herself in the mirror. She always thought it was strange how she looked nothing like her parents. Her mother, who had brown hair and brown eyes, always reassured her that she wasn't adopted every time she asked about it. As for her father, he was out of the picture. Though she has seen pictures of him. He also had dark hair and dark eyes.

A frown spread across her face. So why did she look different? Why did she have red hair and green eyes if neither of her parents did? It was weird how she never really fit in with her family. She was just too different and she didn't know why. Shaking her head from these troublesome thoughts, Lily stepped into the shower. The warm water making her feel more awake and at ease.

Lily watched nervously at all the kids walking around with their families and friends before boarding the train to Hogwarts. Her grip tightened on the cart which held her trunk and owl. This would be her first year. Would she make friends right away? Or will she be an outcast like at her old school? The thought of being lost and alone scared her a bit.

"Well go on! You don't want to be last on the train do you? You might not get a good seat if you are." Lily's mother reassured her with a warm smile and a slight nudge forward. The red haired girl turned to her mother before hugging her and saying goodbye.

She walked over to where a man would take care of her stuff  before leaving it with him and getting on the train. The sight of all the kids made her slightly uncomfortable. Perhaps she could find a empty compartment. However as she looked, most of them were completely full. Only one other compartment towards the back had enough room for her.

Carefully she opened the door and poked her head through.

"Excuse me but can I join you? All the other compartments are full..." She spoke with a small voice. A girl with brown bushy hair looked up at her and smiled. "Sure! We don't mind."

Lily stepped inside and closed the door behind her. "Thanks. My name is Lily by the way. Lily Collins."

"Nice to meet you, Lily. I'm Hermione. And these are my two friends Ron and Harry." Hermione said while pointing to who was who. The kid with the glasses gave Lily an odd look. Lily averted her eyes to the side before sitting next to hermione.
