Winter With You
~~~●●●~~~
So white.
Wang Wook thought as he took a look around while walking through the snow covered grounds of the Hwangju Palace. It has been continously snowing for the past three consecutive days already that almost everything on that place including the roofs of the houses, the pathwalks, the gates and even those leafless tree branches in the garden became a bingsu look alike.
He gazed up to the skies then laid his palm upward in midair. The icy little jewels touched his skin, bringing his body a little bit more of the cold sensation. Then he smiled.
When he was younger, just like most people, he honestly detested the winter season. Every single year as it approaches he prayed so hard to the heavens above for it to not come anymore. He even asked specifically for the spring to arrive directly next to autumn.
Well he just can't help it. He never liked the darkness and the melancholic vibe that the winter season brings. Also apart from this, there are these frustrating facts as well that during those times he can't even play outside nor feast his eyes on the beautiful flowers and majestic looking greens that were supposed to bloom in their garden. But the worst of all his reasons though is that his brothers couldn't even come and visit him in Hawangju for their mothers never allowed it because the slippery and icy roads are too dangerous to travel.
Yes he admits that he was really like that before but certainly not anymore. Now for him winter is and will forever be a season of beauty and eternal sunshine because of not just one, but rather because of two special reasons; First is the day when for the very first time he truly felt what real happiness is and second is the day when he got the most precious gift that he had ever received in his entire life. Both events happened during the two of the heaviest winters of his life.
"Abuji!" Suddenly his thoughts are interrupted when he heared that sudden call.
He turned around to look at the person from whom that voice belongs to.
Wook smiled as he saw his five year old daughter walk/run across the snow towards him.
"Oh Sung be careful!" He warned in worry.
"Abuji!" The child exclaimed happily when she finally reached her father.
Wook leaned down, lifted his daughter from the ground and embraced her in his arms to protect her from the cold.
"Why did you come here? It's too cold outside. You should play inside the house instead." He told her with a soft tone as he gently patts her head at the same time.
"I wanted to see you Abuji. I wanted to give you this." The little girl answered.
After she took something on her dress' pocket then handed it to her father.
"This is a soap for you Abuji. I made it myself. Eommeoni taught me how to." The child uttered proudly with a lovely smile on her face.
"Really?" Wook muttered then mustered to smell it. "Hmmn it smells really good! I love it! Thank you my dearest Sung." He added then kissed his daughter on the cheek.
The child giggled. "You're beard tickles Abuji."
"Ooops I'm sorry." He joined is as well.
Then all of a sudden Wook heared another sound of light footsteps approaching them. A loving smile automatically graced his face as soon as he saw who it was.
"Looks like you two are having fun eh! Can I join in?" Hae Soo asked with a sweet look on her eyes as she stared at the two most valuable persons in her life.
"Eommeoni!" Sung exclaimed happily one more time the moment that she saw her mother.
"Aigoo you run so fast Sung, Eommeoni can barely catch up." Soo teased her back then pinched her slightly on the cheeks.
"I am sorry I left you Eommeoni. I am just excited to give the soap to Abuji." Sung explained in a small voice. Guilt is definitely evident in her tone.
Soo laughed. "Aigoo Sung! I am just joking. Don't be sad anymore huh! I'm sorry I teased you dear." She muttered then patted her daughter's head.
"It's ok. I am not sad anymore." The little girl eagerly responded with a smile for her mother, hinting that she loves that head patting very much.
"Woah and because of that, Eommeoni will make us tons of sweets later to make up for teasing our Sung, right Love?" Wook decided to tease his wife now.
"Tsk...tsk! Can't do. Let's postpone the sweets party for next week shall we? Both of you, your teeth might fall off any moment now because of eating too much of those these past few days." Soo reprimanded with a laugh.
"It's because your sweets are the best in the world Eommeoni! I can't help to eat them" Sung exclaimed.
"I agree!" Wook second the motion while Sung nodded this time for emphasis.
"Thank you my Sung and thank you as well my Love but no. I'll still going to make those sweets next week. For the meantime I'll just make you two some delicious red bean soup instead."
"Oh I like that too! Thank you Eommeoni!" Sung said.
"Well it's more perfect for this cold weather. Thank you Love." Wook told his wife.
"You're welcome dear." Soo replied with a smile. "But Love I wanna ask you something. What are you doing here outside before Sung and I came?"
Wook shrugged his shoulders as he answer. "Just taking a nice walk."
"A walk?" Her forehead creased. "I thought you don't like the snow or the winter in general?"
"Well that's right. I used to hate winter and the cold but not anymore." He responded.
"Really? Why?"
Wook didn't gave his answer right away this time. Instead he put his free arm around his wife's shoulders, pulled her gently towards him then give her a soft kiss on the forehead.
"Because it was during that day in winter when I first realized that I love you and another day in winter too when our daughter came into our lives. With these encounters how could I still hate it then hmmn?" He muttered afterwards.
Enlightened, Soo then gave her husband the warmest of smiles in return. A smile that seemingly turned that winter into a lucious spring in Wook's eyes.
