If you want a reason on why, if you're a girl, you're on the basketball team other than this 'isn't the anime so anything can happen' here it is: recently there was a 'law/rule' that all teams should allow both males and females into their team. However the majority of females didn't 'apply' for basketball.
Anyway... so your part of THE generation and you have all their 'powers' but you don't use them often, the split occurs you go with Kuroko because you agree with him and have an adventure with him.
