Bright Night

Looking back upon my life, there are many things I regret having done. Sometimes I wonder if the choices I made have been always the right one's. There are many things I wish I could have done differently, and many things I wish never would have happened. The world around us is divined by what we represent as humans, and what we are willing to do. In the last decade something extraordinary has happened to us humans.

We always believed that we would evolve into a more intelligent specie and improve our way's of living. Create a better world for us and our children to live in, and grow up into. Yet, nothing could be more wrong. What happened to us has been the worst thing that could have happened, we ended up in a living hell.

The only enjoyment I get these day's are counting the stars that never seem to change. I wish more of us humans would be like stars. Ever so bright and standing tall against all odds, they always shine even when the sun is up, but we are blinded and made to believe they only shine at night.

"Sophie are you lost in thoughts again."

That's my younger sisters, she always bothers me most when I'm thinking to myself. I guess after all that happened they are worried about me. As the eldest of all my siblings I have taken a huge responsibility. Often my parents don't fully realize that we as there children understand and adept to the situation as we go.

"Sophie!!! Hello! Are you even listening"

She's a mouthful, but her words are genuine. Sometimes I'm so afraid something will happen to them. I wonder if they realize in what kind of situation we ended up to be in. There are many things I rather wish they wouldn't have to understand, that they could grow up in the suburbs instead of this place. I wish we could just go back to the way it used to be in the old days.

"Yeah, yeah. I heard you loud and clear dumb ass." Sophie answers her bothering sisters in a sarcastic manner.

Giving the clear dark sky one more glance, Sophie pressures her sore hands against the muddy soil. Her body aches these day's, a young girl like her shouldn't have to experience all the things she went through. Gripping her feet straight on the ground she stands up, only to find her younger sister already standing in-front of her. How silly of me, maybe I should have told you more about my family.

You already met my younger sister Polina, she's a energetic little girl. Her ambitions sometimes put me in a distressed mood. I know in our situation the things she want are impossible to obtain. My parents aren't around right now, I'm keeping watch over our camp right now. My mother is named Julia, but we just call her mom. She's been acting strange lately  and she's always sleeping for some reason. Our dad watches closely over her, but I can see he's no longer the same. I don't know what happened between them, or what he went through; but I know as much as to tell he's no longer the same person he used to be. We always called him dad, but mom names him John. We never really call him by his name.

Polina pushes Sophie back on the ground with a hard push. Sophie lands straight up on her behind, the soft wet soil catches the fall; but dirties the jeans she's wearing.

"What the hell Paulie! What was that for?!" Sophie quickly gets up, her face fades into a maddening look.

"How are we suppose to stay safe when all you do is sink away in thoughts!" Polina clutches her fists and raises it halfway up her chest.

"Everything could happen, anyone could happen! And you're not even paying attention!" Polina's face showed signs of frustration and stress.

Maybe she's right. I have been sinking away in thoughts more so often lately. There hasn't been any incidents of late, but I should be more careful and pay more attention to whats happening.

"You girls will do more harm than good by being so loud...." A voice behind them whispered.
