"Get ready  I have an early appointment today,"

The sound of my father's voice woke me up. Groaning, I pulled the covers above my head. Today was one of those days where you felt like staying in bed forever.  My dad has an  early appointment almost everyday, and on the days I don't have school I have to come with him.

Since we live in a dangerous neighborhood I had to come with him to work. My dad always played the overprotective father. He's afraid that someday, someone will break in and murder me. But I can defend myself you know. I'm seventeen and last year I even took self defense classes, but I got kicked out because I was "too violent". Can you believe that? Okay, I might've punched a girl on purpose while we weren't fighting. But hey, she called me a whore. I mean that's just asking for trouble. Of course I couldn't tell my dad the truth about getting kicked out so I just told him that I wanted to do something else. At first he didn't believe me because I was always a troublemaker, the girl who started fights, got detention, and talked back to her teachers. The only reason why I even started taking self defense classes was to relieve some stress due to my massive anger problems.

"Scarlett get ready now, I'm leaving." I sighed while slowly climbing out of my king sized bed. I thought summer was suppose to be about hanging out with friends and staying out late or dancing on top of cars and watching the stars at night. And maybe even find a boyfriend?

I couldn't have been more wrong.

Glancing at the clock hanging above my freshly painted door, I smiled.  What was once a light pink was now a dark black. Can you believe that, having a pink door? It's true, fortunately I convinced my dad to paint it in another color since I despise of the color pink, anything but pink.

Walking, I enter the bathroom and watched myself in the mirror. I was a complete and total mess. But who cares right?

Well you care Scarlett.

No I don't.

After my shower I got ready and went downstairs where my father was making breakfast. The smell of bacon made my stomach growl. I made my way to the table and sat down to begin eating.  My day  was wearing his usual black suit and  white tie while I was just  in a pair of jeans and a casual top. "Finally, that took longer than always." My dad said with a husky voice.

I grinned in response, "Good morning to you too dad." Now I may seem like a nice girl but I'm the exact opposite. My dad is the only person I respect. Well him and my best friend Lisa of course. She's the only one at my school who isn't an imbecile.

I must admit my father and I aren't your average family.  My mom died 12 years ago when I was five, so I never really knew her. Sometimes it's hard to grow up without a mother figure, but my dad really tries his best for me. He work in an office not far from where we live, which is why we walk. We live in a  penthouse at the corner of our street. Yes we are rich but it's not as good as it seems. My father always has to work late and even though I hate it I know he does it so I can have a better life.

I was lost in my thoughts while I heard my dad  call for me.

"What?" I screamed back not knowing that he wasn't as far away from me then I thought.
