Chapter 12

Today you are taking (Y/d/n) on a picnic. You love spending time with your daughter but today is for a certain reason. You want to find out more about her and Ateyo and see if you can help. You brought her to a clearing about a mile away from Hometree so no one could eavesdrop on the conversation. You set down the bad of food and sat down with (Y/d/n).
"Hungry?"
She hmmed her response while taking in the beauty of the forest. Even you still didn't get used to it and you don't think you ever will. You reached in the bag and pulled out a purple fruit before handing it to her. She took it saying thank you then you grabbed one for yourself. You both took a few bites then you started speaking again.
"How's things with Ateyo?"
"Lousy. He's such a skxawng. He's so caught up in showing off to Tarya that he doesn't pay much attention to me anymore. We used to be best friends but now.... It's like we're just acquaintances. It's not like this just started happening he's been blowing me off for weeks. I just wish he could see the way I like him and return the feelings but I doubt he ever will."
You pulled her in for a hug.
"It will happen. Just wait. I think Ateyo is just going for people his own age right now and is oblivious to the fact that you like him, he is Jakes son after all."
You both chuckled at that.
"Maybe when you both get a little older like maybe when your 17 and he's 15. Right now he looks like he's 17 but that's besides the point. Anyways your gonna be 16 soon along with your brother. Speaking of your brother has he made a move on Grace yet?"
"Yea. He didn't want anyone to know thinking you guys would be mad with the 2 year age difference but I actually caught them kissing the other day."
You smiled knowing your boy was going after what he wants just like Tsu'tey does.
"I'm gonna let you in on a few secrets. One. Ateyo was actually named after your fathers father. Jake and Netiri wanted to honor Tsu'tey by naming their son after a great warrior."
"Shouldn't it have been where you named (Y/s/n) after dads father and not Jake and Netiris kid?"
"Yea but at the time we didn't think of it and anyway your father is still honored to have his fathers name used by the son of the Omaticayan leader."
"Yea I guess. What's the other secret?"
"Your father actually hated Skypeople when they were here. You know how technically I'm human right?"
She nodded.
"Well Jake, Max, Norm, Trudy, and I were technically Dreamwalkers. That's what we were called anyway. Your father hated Dreamwalkers. He didn't like Jake much when they first met but for some reason he liked me. Everyone was always so astonished that he took a liking to me so fast."
She hmmed a response.
"My point is that don't lose hope on you and Ateyo cause he'll come around."
She sighed.
"I hope so."

Later That Day/(Y/d/n) Pov
After the picnic with my mom I was walking around Hometree looking for something to do when I felt two arms wrap around me then Ateyo jumped in front of me after letting go.
"(Y//d/n) you free right now?"
"Yea. Got anything in mind?"
"Yea actually I was wondering if you wanted to go to the pond and take a swim."
"OK."
He smiled and took my hand pulling me towards the pond. It took us a few minutes to get there but when we did Ateyo didn't hesitate to jump in. I watched for a sec admiring his body glistening in the sun with beads of water dripping off of him before jumping in. When I resurfaced I got splashed in the face then saw a blurry blue figure swimming away. I swam after him and was catching up.
"Ateyo! Ateyo!"
I had an idea and screamed.
"Ateyo! Help me!"
Then duckwd under water. I opened my eyes and saw a blue figure frantically spinning around looking for me. Then I heard him screaming my name. I swam under him then shot up and latched onto his back. He tensed then relaxed when he heard me laughing.
"Oh my Eywa (Y/d/n) you scared me."
I was about to say something when I heard someone call Ateyos name from the shore line. I automatically recognized the voice. Tarya.
"Ateyo! Want to come fruit picking with me?!"
I got off of his back and that's when he turned to me.
"You don't mind if I go with Tarya right?"
"No not at all."
He said thanks then swam to shore. I wanted to scream out of frustration but I knew I couldn't hold him back or he would start thinking I was trying to control him. I swam to shore as well then walked off into a different direction then what those to skxawngs took. I was angry and sad. Evrytime I have Ateyo he gets swiped right out from under me. Maybe it's time I stopped paying attention to him. Maybe then he'll come around.

Time Skip Next Day/ (Y/d/n) Pov
Today I got up, grabbed some fruit to eat, and went hunting with my bow. I ran out into the forest and shot a few Tapir before bringing them back to Hometree. Ateyo happened to be walking out as I went to walk in.
"(Y/d/n)!"
He ran over and grabbed a Tapir.
"Here let me help."
He grabbed a few more then continued on inside.
"So did you kill all these by yoursefl?"
"Yea."
"Man your a great hunter."
"Thanks."
I was being sort of cold towards him. I guess he didn't realize that once again he left me for Tarya.
"So after we drop these off with the cooks do you want to go do something?"
"Sorry but I can't. I have things to do."
Truthfully I didn't have anything to do but I didn't want to go with him then have Tarya take him away as usual. His face turned into a look of disappointment and his ears flattened but I wasn't going to let that change my mind. I'm not gonna give him my attention if he can't give me his. I then said bye and walked off leaving him standing there. Maybe now he'll know what it feels like to be left alone and blown off. I walked up to my hammock and laid down in it. As kids Ateyo and I used to share a hammock all the time. Now it's only every once in a while if that anymore. I miss laying with him but now things aren't that simple anymore. I drifted off into a nap thinking back on when Ateyo and I actually seemed to have a future together.
