The water sloshed over his head, pulling him down under the waves once more. He pushed back against the tug, gasping as he drew in mouthfuls of air. His heart was pounding heavy beats in his chest.
Where was land? He needed to get out.
Damn that Pidgeot taking him so far from the safety of his nest. Damn his idiocy for straying too far from it.
The Ratatta turned, treading the water, trying his best to stay afloat.
All of his muscles ached.
He didn't know how long he'd been like this for.
Did it even matter?
All he cared about now was finding land.
Behind him ripples ran along the surface of the deep blue liquid, dragging themselves closer and closer to the rodent.
He didn't notice, his ears intent on finding the slightest hint of the sound of land, his eyes intent on pinpointing the beginnings of it.
A veiled arm lifted out from beneath the ocean's swell, then another, wordlessly pushing against the surface to allow a smiling face to find purchase there. It eyed the Rattata with a predatory gaze and then shot out, wrapping its arms around the Pokémon.
Before he could so much as squeak, he was dragged beneath the waves. Water filled his mouth, screaming its way into his lungs. He struggled and thrashed in panic, trying to escape the predator's hold, his heart hammering in his chest, but it didn't relent; instead dragging him even deeper under the ocean's depths.
As his lungs shrieked for air, the Frillish increased its hold around him, squeezing out what little oxygen was left.
He fell limp.
The Frillish silently dragged its prey down, down, down into the deep.
